We have elected idiot, past actors, peanut farmenrs and, worse of the lot...an ex-CIA director (and we all know what THEY do!) and his imbecile offspring. We have been lulled by idiotic so-called reality TV shows, been mesmerized by sports and celebrity going-ons, and our own conspicious consumption...more of, and bigger of everything. We have lost our values, taken God out of the classroom (as well as education!) allowed our freedoms and rights to become eroded by the very people we elected to protect those rights and freedoms. Imagine that we elect someone to "serve" us, and they end up living like royalty, while we become poorer and poorer? How in hell did THAT happen?

We no longer manufacture anything...and worse yet, the crap we import from China is worthless junk that either does not work or breaks after a short while! When was the last time you were even able to buy an American-made product? My American flag was made in China! What a disgrace!

Part of the oil price problem is also that China, Taiwan, India, Indonisia, etc., all also buy crude oil and it's products...so if you stopped buying gas, so what? The other countries will buy it and the Oil producing countries and oil companies go on doing business as usual!!

The solution is that we, the USA, develope an alternate energy source to run our automobiles and tell OPEC and the Saudis what they can do with thier oil. let's remember, that before the oil was discovered in the Middle East, these people were nomads, living in tents or stone hovels that dated back a thousand years....if no one bought thier oil, they'd soon be back where they were! You can't grow food with oil...let them figure out a way to irrigate their crops with petroleum.

Unregulated futures speculators

Middle East oil cartels that are reaping the benefit of our conspicious consumption

Auto manufacturers who conned the public into behemoth SUVs

A population too apathetic to band together and DO something when the prices began to rise unrealistically

Greedy Oil corporations who have made BILLIONS in profit(yet Exxon has just been given a "slap on the wrist" with a reduced fine for the Valdez oil spill--thank you our SUPREME court!!)

And, certainly not the least significant, the stupidest, most vain, egotistical, do-nothing president in our entire history!

If you think it's bad now...just wait until the next "administration" takes the reins!

Middle-class America, it just might be time to recall our roots....when the King of England imposed unfair taxes on us as a Colony, we threw his tea in the harbor and declared our independance!

The oil companies are posting profits of $50-$60 BILLION dollars annually. If there was a shortage they should be hurting just as much as the consumers. And if oil is in such short supply, stop fueling all the tanks, hummers, water trucks, and all the other supply vehicles needed to keep the war going. Stop fueling all the supply planes and fighters and all the ships. That should be enough to bring oil prices back down. And for all those who believe that the US has no influence over the price of oil think about this. Historical facts will prove that for decades now gas prices always go down before an election and rise shortly after the election is over...look it up. Also Dick Cheney formed the Energy Task Force which nobody seems to want to remember, so that they could decide a fair price for Americans to pay for fuel. The identity of the members of that task force are supposedly a matter of national security and therefore cannot be disclosed (how convenient), but it is believed it was made up of oil industry exectutives. Now if the US has no control over the cost of oil, what was the point of the Energy Task Force in the first place? And why were tens of millions of US taxpayer dollars spent on trials (and yes, our tax dollars pay for the prosecution and defense costs) to find out the truth about the task force? And why are government officials allowed to own stock in industries they have a direct influence over, such as energy, fuel, etc? Why are government officials allowed to own stock in companies that remarkably always win the government contracts for war related items? Americans need to stop watching Will and Grace, American Idol and all those other lame shows, including the biased news networks and starting paying attention to what is going on in our country. Or everyone can just continue to sit around whining and never doing anything about all the corruption. Do any of you know that there have been more criminal indictments during the Bush/Cheney reign of terror than under all other presidents of the US combined since the birth of this nation? Did you know that the first place US troops went in Iraq were the oil fields? They took them over and secured them before any other place. They are still operating and have been all along. Where is all that oil? The refineries in Iraq were owned and run by the government. They have been run since by the military and possibly even private corporations under military protection, but where is the oil or where is all the money from its sale?

We have hopes, dreams and faith to see us thru difficult times. Are we to believe now, that Bush will continue to allow things to get so out of control that we will lose everything from our jobs, our homes, our retirement/social security, our health insurance and most of all our pride. We are sending mass money to countries that don't even want our help, but fail to provide for our own. We will be living in Tent cities out on the street with no food or money. Then what will the Government do for us. Turn their back?? "Sad sort of affairs"

Oil should not be on the stock market.Any oil that comes out of the ground in the us belongs to us and not the oil companys? As I see it our country has been sold out to over sea's and us good people are taking the brunt of it while the sheiks and dictator's are laughing their fat asses off at us? WHO BUYS A LICENSE TAG FOR TEN MILLON DOLLAR BECAUSE IT SAYS 1 THATS RIGHT WE PAID FOR IT. Our country need to grow balls and stop buying from these aholes.

The saudies only pay 45 cent a gallon for gas? and venezuella is right around 20cents and whats the problem here. GREED

People in other countries look at Americans as greedy, self-centered, selfish, arrogant bullies, and I can understand why. All the media has to do in this country is say there is a shortage of something (toliet paper, soap, cabbage patch dolls) and a lot of people will kill, steal, or immediately run out and horde as much of whatever it is as they can. With a lot of Americans, there is no such thing as sharing, taking what you need and leaving some for someone else.

Yes, I hate it that oil keeps getting more and more expensive, driving the price of everything up--it is hurting my pocketbook too. I have never driven and SUV (I have always had a small 4 door car) or cleaned the shelves of a business because there will be a shortage of an item. I never waited in line in the 1970's at gas stations when gas was short, I bought gas when I really needed it, in order to get to work.

Remember, there are other countries on this planet that use oil, whose economy is growing and consuming, just like ours has. We either need to learn to conserve and share what we have taken for granted for so long, or suffer the consequences of demanding more, just because we feel we deserve it!
