In 2006 many pushed out of the labor market and searching work had speculate that unemployment was really at 15-18%. These people were out of the statistics. Some working intermittently for staffing agencies. Some just unemployed and out of the statistics. Many were displaced workers. Also recent college grads working for low wages. The Bureau of Labor Statistics just did not want to find out about these people and still do not want to know about them.

One indicator of how bad the economy is for the US population is food stamps. 35 million receive

the assistance. Nearly 11% of the total population in poverty. This in itself is should be alarming.

An increase 23% increase in the number of people that must retire because of a lack of work.

The US no longer has an economic engine to provide the needed number of jobs for it's population. The transition to a service industry in the 90's did not pan out for the population.

In the place of an industrial giant as an economic engine. We now have small business.

The industrial might of the US needs to be re-energized, to bring back full employment, as

was in 1945. The end of the depression.

Now we have him in the White House with the fat in the fire so to speak and his having NO experience in anything except Lawye litigation. No management skills, no accounting major, no foerign policy, and certainly no military experience to understand how real the world is and it's hatred for the US.

So what does he do.........throw money after money, waste $150M on his inaguaration, spits in the face of our vets because he was too good to go to their election night celebration, travels the world apologizing for who and what America is, while is dear wife is catered to by dozens of attendents earning a small fortune. Hilary only had 3 staff members, Michelle has what.......close to 50, just to take care of her........????? Get real.

Yes it is going to get worse.........I too have a job and am thankful for it. Is it what I want.......not really.......went from almost 90K to a job that started with 52K, then dropped to 45K (had the hours cut).......now has dropped to roughly 40K......hours cut again. Seems to have stabilized at this point. It keeps the lights on the the bills mostly paid, but nothing else. And my money is spent on health care and insurance........not 10 bucks a day for cigarettes. Got to get our priorities in order.

Yes, we could have had a hero running our country with a gorgeous wife who has the business smarts of Jack Welch and Donald Trump.........could have had two for one............instead someone voted for a do nothing junior senator from who knows where that hasn't learned to get his head out his>>>>>>>>>>

Let's not forget his radical terrorist friends..............America is going down from within.............God help us all...............is this the "change" you were expecting??

I don't see how our economy is coming back any time soon. The 1929 Depression lasted until 1941 when we entered WW II ( 12 yrs ). However, we still had manufacturing... So, how long is this one going to last and how bad is going to get. Bring it on!!! I love a challenge!!! How about more enviromentally friendly technology MANUFACTURED in the US!!!

Your can't have an US economy with it's citizens not producing anything real.

.......Stupid idea, typical liberal thinking, and proibably from some rich jerk with nothing to lose...here is an idea, how about putting a 6 month moritorium on all spending, no0 stimulus, no welfare, no cheap friviolous disability, nothing, suspend capital gains, and copr taxes and give small business the real incentives they need...guess what-unemployment would lower to 5% by the time Xmas rolls around, but yet these but heads want to talk health care and cap and trade..f'n idiots

Yes it is true that GW allowed his corporate sponsors to not only influence legislation to favor the richest of us, but GW even went so far as to allow the credit card industry to write/ draft the new bankruptcy laws, and apparently nobody saw the inherent conflict of interest in that.

When corporations and the worlds richest 1% can not only influence our laws, but can even write the laws that are passed, of course the rest of us, the vast majority of us won't only not benefit by it, but we are being hurt by it, period.

It has gotten to the point where this US government id now a wholly owned subsiderary of corporate entities. They receive all the rewards, and the rest of us assume all of the risk, see the wall street bailouts and what brought them about as an example.

No, it's definately not Obamas fault, and it's not even ALL GW's fault, although he is much more culpable than other recent Presidents. And no, Obamas policies will not fix this problem, the problems are way too intrenched and systemic throughout our entire system.

I fear that the only way to repair a completely broken system is to tear it down and start anew.

It's awful, I agree, but Americans are generally too easily influenced by "hot words" and corporate owned main stream media hacks for anyone, regardless of their good intentions, to affect any significant changes, because the change we need will hurt the top 1% far too much for them to simply allow it to happen.

So unfortunately, we are where we are, and it will get much worse for all of us for a long time, before we ever see America in the way that our minds eye sees it, as good and just and fair.

The US will fall down, it has to. Then and only then will anyone be able to bring about the change that we all need so desperately.

Hopefully out of the ashes, a new phoenix will emerge.
