I have been inspired by your posts on more than one occasion! Likewise, I have dozens (no kiding) of nieces and nephews, mostly young adults, all over the country; I could never keep up with what they are up to w/o FB. Just trying to reach them by phone, with their busy lives could be a full time job! As for the risk, you just have to be careful what and where you post. As for all the rancor and anger on this blog, I am very sorry for you! Hope your lives get better!

I don't give out a complete birthday, never a cell phone number, don't join "Relatives' Network" and am as careful as possible about other personal info (even if I take one of those silly quizzes). I have found old friends on FB & I connect with other writers this way. I'm not looking to find new friends this way. I enjoy reading and writing my own short lines about what I'm reading, what I might've done that day, how crappy or great the weather has been in my area, etc. Just tidbits that let my friends know I'm alive & active. I am also aware that what you put onto the internet can live on it forever, which should give anyone pause as they type their words into the cyber abyss. The bottom line, however, is that you can't live in today's world without some risks-- just having a checking account or a charge card or a social security number means you're at risk for identity theft. We are all exposed. Your only protection is informed caution and monitoring the pertinent matters in your life to be sure they're not being tampered with.

First, I do have friends...lots of them. I talk to them in person, call them, e-mail them and even 'chat' with them in person. I think that putting you personal information out there for everyone to see is stupid. Also as I said, I am sick of having Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace 'shoved down my throat' by the media.

As I also mentioned, my job will not allow me to join social networking sites, and honestly I am sick and tired of my friends pestering me about joing Facebook, or the other social networking sites and having to tell them over and over again that I can't

Lastly, if people want to use social networking sites, that is their bussiness, just stop shoving it down the throats of those that do or can't use them.
