To Dennis, how do children learn about nature by viewing wild animals in an unatural setting behind bars? Don't tell me they put the animals in a natural setting, it is never 100% natural, you don't see predator and prey doing what comes natural. Park reserves in Africa and other parts of the world including the U.S. are a better learning tool for children. Besides, it is selfish for humans to use that as an excuse to put these wonderful "WILD" creatures behind bars.

I do not mind my tax dollars being used for zoos, it's better than wasting tax dollars on animal research.

joraffe, You just simply misread or misinterpreted that selective paragraph. I was refering to the burden placed on our country by supplying food stamp's & free health care & housing for the weasel's that slither across the border. The money spent on them would go a long way towards takin care of thing's such as the captive critter's & our own homeless not to mention those of us bein drivin outa work by our useless panty waste government & the like's.

If so many where not afraid to do some physical work or get dirt under their nail's(icky) there is all kind's of job's especially in the agriculture industry. Done it all my life!

To the one suggesting to turn all animal's free so they can run & be happy without chain's or cage's. Do you even have a clue what your sayin? Nothin you'd like better than to see our children tore to shred's by pitbull's & the like's so they can be "HAPPY" !! Not to mention the out of control population explosion that would go with it.

I guess on a brighter note it would give people eating tasty animal's something to do as well as the dumpster supplier's plenty of work. Might keep them from grabbin people's critter's outa their yards 'cuz they'll be to busy chasin all the mongrel's that will resort back to their natural way's of killing whatever & who ever for food.

If some would get out of the concrete jungle's & out into the real world they'd learn & know the difference. Pretty easy to sit in the big city & form opinion's about thing's they don't have a clue about............. Everytime you sink your teeth into a happy meal or a steak just remember that stuff come's from farmer's not grocery store's contrary to some's beleif. The raw meat fed to the animal's in the zoo's ? "YEP", farmer's of some sort as well !

I don't think these animals a being exploited in any way, they are well cared for and it is the only way to see and appreciate GODS beautiful creatures.

We not only need to talk about taking them from thier natural habitat, we need to talk about taking thier habit away from them (maybe for another sub division or so we can rape the land of its trees and rain forests.

We bailout corporations who've had gredy/stupid CEOs who continue getting over the top bonuses, but cut out things that add quality to our life. There is something wrong with this picture. What it is is that we are very, very STUPID as a society.
