I guess they did end up costing more money than I originally thought by looking online, but I do love them. Very easy access to connect to TV, camcorders, and the remote control and built-in webcams are nice, too. I don't like my Dell Mini, though because it's so slow.

I have spoke with an Indian rep a couple times, and they were very helpful. They walked me through taking my hard drive out of the computer and into an external case, saving my files, and reloading Windows by pressing f11 while rebooting. Best Buy wanted to charge me $200 for the same service, minus saving all my files. I thank those reps for helping me save my files, which is more important to me than anything else. Now I backup my files as I save them with an external drive.

Over the years I have had my share of Dell problems and dealing with the tech support from countries overseas. The last guy I called, I dubbed him Raul, but he called himself Steve, he was a real pain in the butt. You could barely understand his English and told me he wasn't in another country when I asked. Then I asked him what time it was there. He said it was 9AM. It was 10:30PM CDT here. OK, this isn’t going to go well, I thought to myself. I don't remember which PC it was for, or what that problem was, as there were many. I asked to talk to his supervisor, or someone who could speak American English, (since he said he wasn’t in another country), as I was not able to understand him well enough to help me with my problem. He told me there wasn't someone else to talk to, he was getting as frustrated as I was, and becoming quite arrogant. After about a half-hour of this I snapped. I told him, "hey look Raul, I know Dell is in Texas. Texas is about 1800 miles straight south from me, a days drive, and in the same time zone. I have not had a vacation in about 10 years and I have never been to Texas. While I am vacationing in Texas I am going to stop by Dell and stick this PC up some ones rear-end. Good morning and good bye!” The next day I got a call from someone with a Texas type accent, and we were able to resolve my PC problem. I have really had nothing but problems with their computers and service. I could write a book about all the ‘Dell fun’ I have had. I’ve replaced modems, hard drives, and several disk burners and drives. I usually get it to work by sticking in a generic, after-market part myself. Dell called me a couple of weeks ago trying to sell me a $375 extended warranty on my latest purchase, (a $400 for CPU with 19”flat screen). I gave her a bit of a hard time telling her that they only make disposable products. With the worthless tech support and probable repair issues, it isn’t worth the time I would have to invest, and have to pay $375 for it. If the new one goes out, I’ll just use the good parts that are left to fix the others, go buy an HP, and still have a 19” flat screen.

It had some kind of temperature control problem such that the fan came on at high speed and the system just froze. After six months Dell sent a Bios revision which apparently fixed the problem. This was after many hours of messing around with their Tech Support helplines . Anyway, when the DVD drive failed I asked them to compensate me for all the hassle. They apologised and offered to take the system back . Their Customer Services Dept. sent me an email from the U.K. saying they would give me 1460 Pounds Sterling

which I thought was fair as I had originally paid 1460 euro (a euro was worth about .70 Pounds) . (I should have said at the outset tha I live in Ireland a few miles from their European manufacturing headquarters). I sent back the system and they sent me 1460euro (a month or so later). I pointed out that they had told me I would get 1460 in sterling. A guy phoned me and identified himself as a top Dell legal fellow . He wondered why I felt entitled to get back more than I had paid originally. I explained that Dell had a full years use of my money whereas I had a full years non-use of their laptop plus a lot of aggravation and expense. He said I wouldnt get any more money as the Sterling offer was a mistake on the part of their U.K. office and the , er, contract of sale didnt allow for any further compensation. Hilarious! Michael Dell must have agreat sense of humour!

I don't want to speak with them when I have tecnical issues!

I have upgraded all of them periodically. I am satisfied, I even financed all of them through Dell. The technical capabilities of the systems are great for what we need. I play games and thereofre had to upgrade to be able to. But altogether paid much less than hardcore systems. The problem is the customer service. It sucks. I think Dell should built a customer service center in gool ol' America and let our own take care of our own. They should use that as the gimmick to built a better Dell experience. If it was my business, that's what I would do. No offense to anyone but I cannot understand a word they say and now that I know a little more than the normal end user I realize how little training they receive to handle real tech stuff. Another advice: change the image and go for the hardcore gamer market, it's a goldmine.

You want good service? Pay for the gold support. It is based in the US and works fantastic. A Dell with a gold support warranty included is still way cheaper than an Apple, and you get the added bonus of not being an elitist moron.

Now using it as a back up, plugged into the wall.

The printer is another matter. It will accept commands via cable, but I can not make it work by remote device, eventhough we are all networked together. the printer simply won't accept Palm and Palm will not talk to the printer. Each company blames the other. Odd how that happens.
