Oh sure, it's been a fabulous ride for Apple , Amazon and Google . But this post is about the losingest losers out there. The train wrecks. The Lindsay Lohans of technology. Here are the companies

re: Tech train wrecks in 2007

comment5,

The OS is well designed. The user access controls are fairly easy to learn and master. The GUI is excellent, AERO is outstanding. True you will need more RAM to run Vista, but hey, RAM is cheap folks.

I don't agree with the pricing from MS though. Vista Ultimate should be no more that $199.00 at best.

Sullivan

I think that AMD makes such good processors that they can withstand a "hit." I do hope that they come back strong since they far out-perform Intel. It would be a shame to lose the best processor on the market!

And Vista...it sucks. I think that they made it appealing with a few toys and tweaks and basically released a lemon. Those who were unfortunate enough to purchase it...I feel sorry for them. I think that I'll stay with XP pro Media Center Edition for a while longer...quite a while longer.

re: Tech train wrecks in 2007

I installed Vista on two machines this year - only issues I ran into were driver related for old devices. AS much as it may be irritating - losing use of an older HP scanner for example - it really can't be microsoft's issue. It is HP's issue - they decide what drivers they are going to update.

So it is a choice - knowing some old stuff will not be supported. Bottom line - as for Vista itself - not a problem of any kind, and lots of great new features. This is just one more, "We love to attack Microsoft" - why, because they are too successful. That's the nature of Media. As far as Apple, credit to them, they have been very successful at controlling the quality - by controlling the peripherals.

Everyone forgets - two different strategies, it is what created the hug PC market with lost of challenges to make all the devices work together, vs. the much samller Apple world where effectively hardware standards are controlled much tighter through Apple. Each strategy has obvious benefits.

Let's see, over the last 10 years I have purchased

1 Apple & 1 Ipod, & 1 Apple OS upgrade.

7 PC's (currently runing three), 4 different versions of Windows OS, 3 different versions of Office.....

If it's about money (it usually is) you get the picture...

PS- I had my first "apple" related failure this XMas. The Dock (speaker system) I bought for my son's IPod failed. Came with a bad amp inside - poor quality control by an offshore supplier..... Or Apples fault?

Currently I own an Athlon 64 X2 4800+ which ran circles around a comparable Intel at half the price. Next purchase - AM2 X2 64 6000+ which is still equal to Intel's core2 6600 and runs much cooler. And who knows maybe I'll give the Phenom a shot at overclocking.

As for Microsoft we have seen the historical moves from OS's - 3.1 to 98, 98 to ME (eeek), ME to XP (XP being a stable version of ME), and now XP to Vista. Seems that ME was a bridge to get the public hype up for the introduction of XP, so it seems to reason that Vista will be the bridge to get the public to Windows 7 (more stable version of Vista). Opps did I let something out of the bag. Hummmmm we'll see.
