With our esteemed politicians refusing to recognize common sense, their no drill policies can only result in higher prices long term as the benchmark of this nation is OIL! We are addicted and will remain so for the next ten years regardless of all the so called quick fix band aids that amount to 3 to 5% of our needs. It's true we cannot drill our ay out of this 40 year political indolence but it does not take 20 years to bring oil fields on line. We should drill known reserves, enact tax incentives for all alternative energy sources, eliminate gas guzzling personal autos, convert diesels trucks to natural gas engines and face the energy shortage honestly.

Anthony. Thanks for the article. If our leaders would put an end to the speculation loopholes and look at this problem for the near term and long term, by opening Anwar and other potentially meaningful projects, we could attack those who want to drain financial investment security from us. We have let random chaos rule for the past several quarters. It's time to get back to reality. I totally agree that oil will come down. The only thing keeping it up is the fatality mentality that feeds on negativity and the lack of response from congress. Value is what Buffet has built his fortune on. Hopefully we have seen the end or near end of the "bubble era." It would be a good thing if you could use historical facts from another similar cycle that would help readers making investment decisions in todays market. I have noticed the price decline in gold and other comodities. Is this long term meaningful? Or is it just a temporary retreat?

Aside from my general skepticism that oil will go down dramatically.......IF oil went down, normally that would also decrease the cost of plastic and other petroleum-based products....which companies might be effected?

The oil companies are making RECORD PROFITS each quarter is all over the tv. Their pockets get fatter and fatter while the rest of us work hard just to fill our gas tanks. Saying that oil will get as low as $65 just gets everyones hopes up and does not help all the lay-offs and unemployment lines. There are other sources of energy but the big oil tycoons probably control that so we are stuck with the high prices. Jobs are getting scarce just because the big guys want more money from us. Every big company seems to be doing some type of fraud is what I see.

As I write this, I'm doing a consulting job on an oil rig in Venezuela. I belive the drilling stocks are the way to go. The drillers are making money and their rigs are contracted out for many years. If we decide to drill off our coasts, rigs will be hard to find and they take years to build. If the price of oil drops, more will be consumed, the drillers will STILL be making money. Transocean has a ridicoulusly low PE. Just some thoughts from a man who has ben in this game for over thirty years.

In theory, we the people, could drive oil to $65. But that will require us to quit buying the "cheapist for me attitude." We would have to elect a government that would do what we need to do to get us off this foriegn oil. Instead of sending us a feel good check and patting us on the head and tell us everythings going to be alright. We got to band together and realize who "we" really is. Tax import oil! and buy American!! Yes it will hurt. Open up ANWR for god sakes! Build nuclear!!! And Lord Please let the Chevy Volt work.....

Can you imagin if we were to start exporting oil? I don't think Hugo or adimajad would ever be in the news again, at least not in Texas.
