Tough news for electronics companies: A trade group is seeing a drop in the percentage of people saying they intend to buy music players, cameras, laptops and other gadgets.
The group, the Consumer Electronics Association, is expecting that spending on these gadgets will only grow 3.5% in the fourth quarter. That's about half of the growth rate from a year ago, according to The New York Times.
And people are budgeting less for holiday shopping. Consumers plan to spend an average of $1,437 during the holidays, down 14% from last year.
That kind of budget doesn't leave a lot of room for laptops and other pricey electronics. Looks like mobile phones could be the bright spot of the holidays. Consumers are still very interested in them, while demand for computers is sliding.
