It is a problem for the administration.
It is a problem for the next administration. Raising taxes may be the easy solution.
I wonder what would happen, if every person in the US paid off all their consumer debt, eg credit cards, auto loans, etc. Everybody like to point the finger at the goverment, but really the problem is our own. Take a look at the share per person of the national debt. It is eerily close to the average amount of consumer debt per person.

Live the way our parents and grandparents lived. Live below or at least within your means! Use credit wisely, individuals are not like the government, we can't just raise taxes when we need more money. Get real people quit spending!
Everyone who has been keeping an eye on this mess,would do well to Google "What Caused The Great Depression".
I was unaware just how similar the circumstances were. It will open your eyes.
Here is a concept for government. How about only spending as much as you take in. Kinda like the rest of us need to do.
I think whenever the gas prices started going threw the roof, it made everything else go up, that's what got us in the mess!
In light of the fact that 70% of Americans were against the bailout, the citizens should use their voices on election day and systematically vote out and remove ANY legislative member who voted in favor of this wasteful use of the taxpayers money. We can't do any worse and, just maybe they will understand what "for the people" means.

mydogspot6: You are ABSOLUTELY right. So many people won't face the truth of their own situations. My only beef is that the savings rates have been so bad for a long time (1% and under.) Until folks start making a dent in the debts, nothing will improve with any party in the White House. It's time to commit to be debt free as possible!
