Avoid the markets now, economist says

Avoid the stock markets altogether right now. That's the opinion of noted investment economist Enzio von Pfeil, who appeared on CNBC Asia.

Even though stocks are at their cheapest valuations in a decade, von Pfeil says to keep an eye on the conflict between Russia and Georgia. We could be seeing a resurgence of the Cold War, he said, and any blowup could send the markets south.

Von Pfeil was also concerned about the Fed bailing out individual banks. That could compromise its independence and weigh on the dollar, he said.

doesn't it look like their is no such thing as long term investing? Their are to many crooks stealing the little invester money t. y

Yep, we are living in a kleptocracy. The fat cats steal what they can from the corporations they are supposed to be "managing" and buy any number of the politicians who are for sale. The government aids these crooks in outsourcing our jobs. My broker sticks me with high commission funds that go nowhere but down. Corporations are an outright evil. They have way too much power. Did you notice that we have the best government money can buy?
