Yahoo says in a regulatory filing that it paid $36 million in the first half of the year for advice on dealing with Microsoft's acquisition proposals, Carl Icahn, the potential proxy contest and "other strategic alternatives."
The amount doesn't include the month of July, when the proxy drama came to a head. PaidContent notes the other costs that don't make it into the legal filings, such as sunk time, diverted resources and distraction. Yahoo shares are up slightly today to $20.51.
Another hidden cost: the amount Yahoo will spend on advertising and marketing to repair its damaged reputation.
