Netflix is out of set-top boxes

Netflix said it sold all of its set-top boxes in the first three weeks, and it's trying to speed up production. The company, which expects its DVD-by-mail business to peak within five years, is branching into online video delivery with a $100 set-top system called the Roku Netflix Player by Roku.

Netflix never told us how many boxes it had in the first place, so we have no idea how significant a sell-out is. Netflix shares dipped briefly this morning but have come back to $30.65 at last check. In the three weeks since the Roku player went on sale, Netflix stock has roller-coastered between $30 and $33.

The bad news: The player's manufacturer said it will take up to eight weeks to fill the channel again. The good news: Netflix is working with three other electronics companies to build similar boxes.

what the heck is a set-top box?

My computer is setup with a projector, so I've been taking advantage of Intant Watch for a while, great feutyre. The Roku has it's problems: the remote functions don't work that well and movie selection is awkward, but  it's a great alternative to Cable or Satellite if you're not a TV addict. Once they beef up their movie offerings in Instant Watch (the TV shows are pretty good) I'll jump into the bandwagon. My friend also also connects his Mac to the TV to watch netflix online offerings, if the topbox works its bugs out, not need to have a PC in the vicinity and something LIKE itunes or itunes compatibility (unlikely) would make this unbeatable.

This is very exciting, especially as Netflix slowly expands their library. I'm waiting to see if the speculation about a Netflix/XBox deal ever comes about to deliver Netflix movies through Microsoft's Media Center (right now you can buy and download movies, and steam some other content).

Meanwhile, if you have a Wii, you can probably buy their browser and go to Netflix's website so you can watch your streamed movies on your TV.

The Roku is why I cancelled my subscription to Blockbuster and went to Netflix.  This is the future of watchinb movies at home.

The set top box is a great thing. All net flix need to do is set up there

Movies to show Cosed Caption. The box will show them but Next Flix needs to

make the movies show Closed Caption. It is all there they just need to do it.

It is a box that you can use to download movies from Netflix and watch them on your TV

A TV "set" with a "box" that sits on "top".

It's a box that allows you to view movies like you would on your PC, just on your TV instead of having to receive DVD's through the mail. Only downside is that right now, they still don't have that many movies available (at least not ones that interest me).

a box you set on top of a tv that you connect to the internet to stream videos (in this case) or connect to the cable company or to a satellite provider

this is msn, they can just make things up whenever they want.
