Apple's fake store?

File this one under unnecessary corporate expenses. Apple reportedly built a full-size replica of a store on a Warner Bros. studio lot to film a commercial for the highly-anticipated Steve Jobs keynote on June 9. That's when everyone is expecting Jobs to unveil a new iPhone that works on 3G networks.

So it wasn't possible for Apple to shut down one of its 186 retail stores for a couple hours?

If this is true, maybe Apple has something so secret up its sleeve it couldn't risk a breach in the retail environment. But nope, I'm not going there. Not joining the army of bloggers salivating and speculating about Apple this week. There are more important things going on in the world....aren't there?

Apple shares, by the way, are down 1% today to $183.87 at last check.

Tree Hugger, aren't you wasting our natural recources by breathing?  Who cares whether or not they built a set, it gave some people a job.  Also, it takes more than a couple of hours to shoot a commercial, it is closer to the entire day if not more.  Report on something worth while.

Hey Apple, spend MONEY. A LOT OF IT!!!. I'm in the construction industry. I've built Apple stores and worked on sets. It puts food on my table and a boat in my driveway!!! Besides a full set that looks just like the real thing on the screen takes a couple of days to build and most of the time they are used again and again. Just repaint and boom, another set is born.

who cares! This is free advertising for Apple. Don't u get it... front page headline on this website...what would that cost..do that get this? no brainer!

It common knowledge that filming a commercial (or anything that matter) on location is much more expensive than building a set and doing it at the studio.  On location is a luxury.  That's because all the materials, tools and laborers building the set as well as the technicians filming the commercial and necessary support is already at the studio.  That's the cheaper way to go.  Also, the materials are recycled again, again and again.  Kim Peterson gets an F- for this report.  Pretty sloppy reporting.

Bryan - I think you need to pull your head out of those two apples you are setting on and stop being so self indulged and narcicistic that you think everyone is not as educated as you think you are.  You said there is nothing fake about the US economy?  I could easily write all day on the multitude of fake things in the US economy, but just one example hopefully will make the point.  Government published statistics regarding inflation do not include increases for food or energy.  Consequently, Congress and Bush and Bernanke can all easily claim that inflation is under control.  My question to you then, are those increases not a part of a not fake economy?  Seems to me from your logic Bryan that those increases must be fake too since they are not reported.

Boy people bitchin' about Apple on a Microsoft page, who would have thought. The fact of the matter is this is not news, people build sets for commericals all the time. The waste of money is MSN paying a "reporter" for this hard-hitting news story.

Typical Apple,

Can't borrow or intermingle.

Have to create their own version.

Hey "tree hugger"......gee, just how do you get through the day with that "greener than thou" attitude?? Up yours!! Think I will go drive my SUV, throw some plactic bottles out the windows, and chop down some trees for the FUN of it. Bet you don't bathe either, so as not to "waste" water. Whatever. Steve did this for the first iphone. This one is even bigger. Apple will go to whatever lengths needed to keep this phone under wraps. The word will come Monday, when Steve rolls it out, and not a moment sooner. All anyone can agree on is it will be 3G. Beyond that, we will wait and see.

They are a computer company... how about any room anywhere and using CGI......Duh!

NOTHING LIKE GOING FOR IT.

WE NEED MORE HYPE AND EXCITEMENT!

GO APPLE!!!!
