Apple's fake store?

File this one under unnecessary corporate expenses. Apple reportedly built a full-size replica of a store on a Warner Bros. studio lot to film a commercial for the highly-anticipated Steve Jobs keynote on June 9. That's when everyone is expecting Jobs to unveil a new iPhone that works on 3G networks.

So it wasn't possible for Apple to shut down one of its 186 retail stores for a couple hours?

If this is true, maybe Apple has something so secret up its sleeve it couldn't risk a breach in the retail environment. But nope, I'm not going there. Not joining the army of bloggers salivating and speculating about Apple this week. There are more important things going on in the world....aren't there?

Apple shares, by the way, are down 1% today to $183.87 at last check.

Well maybe Apple should come out with a rotary style iphone and make it plant a new tree every time you text message someone, that way all these "green" people could be happy. BTW I assume that computer you typed these comments on was made from products you harvested in an environmentally friendly way :) For being so intelligent maybe Steve will just mail you a check!

Tree Hugger:

I suggest that you avoid using the computer due to its impact on the environment.  Put some biodiesel in your car and then go eat a $10 ear of corn retard.

I know they were shooting at the 5th store in NY because I saw it; and who cares if they build a fake building?  Yes the envirorment, blah blah blah, but you could say that about anything.  Why not critize starbucks for having a store on every corner in NY?  I for one think thats an amazing idea to keep praying eyes out and cannot wait for Monday to hear whats in next with Apple!!

Hey at least the setbuilders had work for a couple of days.  Isn't that contributing to the economy??

Isn't it ironic??????? A Computer Giant uses a building while the technology it help to create is overlooked in making a comercial.

Before or after store hours? Get real then you'll be paying all the high priced people involved with the production who you've already paid travel allowances to overtime! Real cost saving there!

That commercial for Service Merchandise must have been good! :-)

Its a commercial, you need a closed set and a controlled enviroment!  None of you have worked in TV before so you wouldn't know.  A store is for retail business, a studio is for making movies/television!!  Duh

Its an advertising budget, so the money was is there for a COMMERCIAL, in which you need to SELL YOUR PRODUCTS at a retail location you DON'T CLOSE TO MAKE A COMMERCIAL!

NOTHING LIKE OUR GOV'T WASTING BILLIONS & BILLIONS ON PRIVATE JETS FOR HYPOCRATES!

To be honest, I don't get it.  I see people at work with iPhones and they are big and bulky, they look silly in their funky plastic case, you can't text on it (at least not easily), and the thing seems to get really hot when you use it.  I'm worn out hearing about the stupid phone and how great Apple is - .....it's a freakin' phone people, not a cure for cancer!

Who cares if waist money all that eans is they are running a profitable business, meaning, good thing for our economy.

Has anyone actually ever been on a set for a full production?

They will be there for more than one day.  I am pretty sure Apple will not be doing the run-n-gun ENG style camcorder production techniques that we are often painfully subjected to on sites like YouTube.  There are many reasons why Apple's image is so carefully crafted.  This coordinated effort requires many people and time.

Has Apple ever done anything half-baked? No.  (And  please don't bore me with your iPod battery dilemma because you don't know how to manage recharging technology.)
