Apple's fake store?

File this one under unnecessary corporate expenses. Apple reportedly built a full-size replica of a store on a Warner Bros. studio lot to film a commercial for the highly-anticipated Steve Jobs keynote on June 9. That's when everyone is expecting Jobs to unveil a new iPhone that works on 3G networks.

So it wasn't possible for Apple to shut down one of its 186 retail stores for a couple hours?

If this is true, maybe Apple has something so secret up its sleeve it couldn't risk a breach in the retail environment. But nope, I'm not going there. Not joining the army of bloggers salivating and speculating about Apple this week. There are more important things going on in the world....aren't there?

Apple shares, by the way, are down 1% today to $183.87 at last check.

macrumors.com had pictures of the apple store in manhattan on 5th avenue filming a commercial. They closed down that store last week for it.

Pete:

Perhaps in Junior High School they did not teach you the definition of a recession.  The only thing fake about the US economy are the idiots like you that think we are in a recession.

BTW a recession is defined as have two consecutive quarters of no financial growth in the economy.  8th grade economics.

GEEEEEEEEEE,I wish I had the BIG money to blowwwww and just build something for a 1 time deal.I could be RICH to if I had all the BUCKS that get waited by big companies. It must be nice to build something worth millions and just use it for 1 day and then it sits to just rottttt away....     (((WAT TO GO APPLEEEEEE))))

Who gives a {tihs}? The only {gnikcuf} apple I care about are the tasty Pink Lady and Gala apples at the market. Steve Jobs really is a blow.

Wow Kim, you are a genius!

Sure, Apple should turn away hundreds of customers for a few days instead of using a few thousand bucks (oh, of which they have BILLIONS in cash) to build a set.

It's called user experience and it's what has made Apple what it is. Look into it.

They are coming out with an iphone flip. It will be smaller than the current iphone. The flip part will be transparent glass.

pete is right

Hmm. If they did this -- built a set to film a commercial in --  it seems obvious that they needed to, in order to get the best Apple communication they could, on film.  The problems with filming in existing stores are many; they tend to look shop-worn or ordinary on film, whereas if you're building a set, you can emphasize the high-tech, glorious features with gorgeous materials and lighting and camera angles.  Plus, this is cost-effective if you consider that the set=building/filming/editing budget of a commercial is small, when compared with the media budget required to run that commercial.  So it was a smart, economical, forward-loking thing for them to do.  Take it from me, someone who makes TV commercials!  cheers.

pete seriously what does Apple building a fake store have to do with the "fake" U.S. economy. Why dont you all just not give a crap and just be grateful that americans are so freaking spoiled with money its rediculous and i love being an american even after 14 years as a marine

People who talk about how much they spend don't have any money.
