Apple's fake store?

File this one under unnecessary corporate expenses. Apple reportedly built a full-size replica of a store on a Warner Bros. studio lot to film a commercial for the highly-anticipated Steve Jobs keynote on June 9. That's when everyone is expecting Jobs to unveil a new iPhone that works on 3G networks. 

So it wasn't possible for Apple to shut down one of its 186 retail stores for a couple hours?

If this is true, maybe Apple has something so secret up its sleeve it couldn't risk a breach in the retail environment. But nope, I'm not going there. Not joining the army of bloggers salivating and speculating about Apple this week. There are more important things going on in the world....aren't there?

Apple shares, by the way, are down 1% today to $183.87 at last check.

Isn't that like Congressmen flying in Jumbo Jets across the country to support Green Technology? If they (Apple) have the money to build an entire store facade out of construction materials, not only are they wasting money, they are adding pollutants into the atmosphere..

jeez...how much could they have really wasted for a 'movie set' version of an Apple store?  it only has to look good for the camera...it doesn't have to withstand actual use or be functional.

Don't assume you know what is going on. If the other phone making companies had any idea of what really was going to be released when the first iPhone was launched, it wouldn't have taken so long for them to launch their own copy cat phone.

Also, imagine if auto makers took your approach Kim. I prefer to have things built separately for testing / demonstration reasons so long as they serve a purpose.

Who cares? In 3 weeks there will be another new iPhone or iPod. Maybe this will be an iPod smell or an iPhone taste? Does it really matter?

Apple stores not fake like the US economic and economic numbers. Nothing is more fake then the US economy . The recession will get worse and may turn into a DEPRESSION. Americans deserve a great DEPRESSION for spending more money then they earn on stupid items like an ipod.

Man, I hope apple delivers. I just bought 16K of their stock yesterday @ 187. I wrote more about it here -

and am hoping they over deliver as usual, despite marketing expenses!

Not surprising.  They brouhgt in tile from Italy for all of their flag ship stores.  They have overnighted bottle water for a store opening, when someone could have gone to the corner store for it.

Even if they were worried the negative impact on sales by shuttering a store for a few hours, they could have pulled a trick out of Kevin Smith's sleeve and filmed it at night after the store was closed, a la Clerks.
