Gamestop no longer selling Zunes

I never knew anyone who said, "I want to buy a Zune. I'm going to GameStop to get one!" Actually, I never knew anyone who said they wanted to buy a Zune, but that's another story. GameStop announced today it's going to stop selling the music players from Microsoft, and I don't expect it to impact either company much.

Zunes didn't sell as well as GameStop had expected, so it pulled the player from its 4,400 stores. This isn't the death knell for Zunes, which have a 3% share of the digital media player market. But it is a sign that Xbox 360 owners are not predisposed to the Zune. Perhaps if the Zune had broader appeal there might have been some cross-selling possibilities, but that isn't happening.

GameStop shares are up slightly to $49 today. Microsoft shares are down more than 1% to $28.10.

Disclosures: I don't own shares of any companies mentioned in this post. And while Microsoft owns this blog, Microsoft does not control, censor or otherwise have any editorial influence over what I write.

I don't own an XBox 360, I never felt that the cost outweighed any benefits it delivered. (I do own an original XBox, which I really liked. Actually I've owned two of them and both of the dvd drives went bad, go figure...). But I do own a Zune 30gb and have for over a year and I LOVE it. It never occurred to me to go to Gamestop to buy one, I just went to Best Buy.

Now I have nothing good to say about the software that the Zune uses to sync music from my pc to my Zune device...

I have an Xbox 360 and I love it. I also have the 30gb Zune also. I love Microsoft and what they do to stand behind their products. The pins in the charging port of the zune bent and I called them up and they sent me a box with a label to send it back to them. 5 days later I got a brand new Zune. I love the larger screen, the better displays and the ability to customize everything I do with the Zune. I love Microsoft so much that I took a gamble on the HD DVDs. I bought a HD DVD player for my Xbox 360 and love it and was sad to hear that HD DVDs were phasing out. But now Best Buy had a promotion for a $50 gift card. Microsoft does whatever they can to put their product in the market. They stand by their products. Thank you Microsoft.

I tried a Zune... was so much less than it's competitor and after all, it was MSN's product. YEAH.. well never again!

What the zune did: it's program said to the computer..you don't have the right to own this music, pulled it out of C drive and if it hid it in some file, I have yet to find it. I lost lhundreds of files of songs which were part of a music collection which went back to the 1920's. Perhaps it did the same to others and why it's failed!!!!

DO NOT TOUCH A ZUNE IF YOU HAVE ANY MUSIC ON YOUR HARD DRIVE WHICH YOU WANT TO TRANSFER TO THE PORTABLE PLAYER. DO NOT>>>DO NOT!!!!

They sure were close with the Zune2 development when they were about to sign on PortalPlayer... (Used to make the IPod Chips).  But suddenly, before an announcement could be made about the deal in process was fully negotiated, it was suddenly quite, and PortalPlayer is now a subsidiary of Nvidia.  (Just in time, the stock would have tripled for PortalPlayer.

Well I just could not see my self buying an Ipod, I do have a minimac, had an Imac before that, but did not like how apple restricted usage, I do not like restrictions. I do like itunes over all other media players though. I actually have waited and waited and still am waiting for a zune, cannot find the larger GB anywhere, do not like the crappy colors, cheap gloss blac and *** brindle brown, and since I just bought a CD at the store, which I can play on numerous pcs and my mac, why would I give apple 9.99 a dowload for an album that can only be used in a single place, so that concept does not work for me. So now I'll just buy another sony mp3 player to use at the gym and save some money.

Well what can i say I LOVE MY ZUNE. for me the zune was such a helpfull product.

and my son that is only 3 love the zune.to watch all his movies and cartoons when mommy and daddy are watching tv.and as for Microsoft they do to stand behind their products. something happen to ny sons zune so i called up Microsoft thet sent me a box to send the old zune back and in 4 days my son had a brand new zune and he was happy.so Thank you Microsoft for makeing products that even a 3 year old can use.And there is one more thing i can say for Microsoft when 7 days before vista frist came out i went to staples to pick-up windows xp pro not more then a week went by when ups drop off a package from Microsoft to my house when i open the box Microsoft sent me. windows vista Ultimate for free. and with vista my zune xbox 360 and my pc working all as one it just gose to show you that Microsoft is always on top of ther game makeing products that they do stand by and for ther customers. THANK YOU MICROSOFT ********** 10/10 IN MY BOOK

I purchased a Zune, it was not compatible with my MS Multimedia 2003. Even though Microsoft says it is..wrong. They suggested I upgrade to Multimedia 2004 or Vista...but at at cost..an extra +$200.00. I returned it and purchased a Zen instead. It works fine right out of the box. Never ever had a problem with it...whats best is it costs $100 less.

I believe Bill Gates and his team at Microsoft never ever really thought out this customer loyalty and economics thing. Maybe that's why MS is having so so much success with Vista that they decided to keep XP around a bit longer.....dah.....

Wake up Bill...

50 percent of X-Box 360 's die in 6 months or less, stay away from Microsoft. . .
