Starbucks dumps T-Mobile for AT&T Wi-Fi

AT&T gets another win today. Starbucks is ditching T-Mobile and going with AT&T for its customer Wi-Fi service at 7,000 locations.

People who have a Starbucks prepaid gift card can get two hours of free Wi-Fi per day at Starbucks. Glenn Fleishman confirms that you can buy and activate a card, and then get free Wi-Fi from that day forward. Most of AT&T's broadband and U-verse customers will also have free access, but AT&T wireless customers (including iPhone users) won't get the same deal.

Surprisingly, the per-hour Wi-Fi fees will drop under AT&T to $4 for two hours or $20 per month for unlimited access. (T-Mobile used to charge $6 an hour).

The switchover will start this spring and gradually roll out on a city-by-city basis. And fear not, T-Mobile customers: you'll still be able to access Starbucks' Wi-Fi, because Starbucks likes your business too.

So Starbucks keeps customers happy and gets another way to push its prepaid cards. AT&T vastly expands its hotspot network. People will pay less for Wi-Fi access, and T-Mobile customers aren't left out in the cold.

Update: For everyone who is saying the headline of this post is misleading and that Starbucks isn't dumping T-Mobile, let me clarify. Starbucks has ended its six-year agreement with T-Mobile. AT&T is installing all new equipment at Starbucks, replacing the previous T-Mobile setup. AT&T reached a roaming agreement with T-Mobile to allow T-Mobile customers to access its network for free for the next five years. what just happened and how much will it cost at $4 for two hours that still sounds like a lot

this article is too confusing and just what is blue tooth and what does it have to do with this.

And can I have green tooth instead?

Green is my favorite color as it is the color of money.

I'm a T-mobile cell customer.  Will I still get Internet for FREE at S-Bucks?

Kudos to Starbucks. T-mobile sucks. I have another 18 months to go on my contract, cancel time. without exception my service with T-moblile  is ALWAYS shut down by VERIZON'S service area.  Although I live in a central area, I cannot get service wthin my house with T-mobile and I frequenty travel in remote areas, the ONLY phones that have reception there are VERIZON, hands down. At&T would be 2nd.

The wi-fi should be free.

pay for wi-fi?  I go to coffee shops that provide free wi-fi. That criteria alone keeps me out of Starbucks.

What about overseas wi-fi access at Starbucks?  I think they should do it for free like some of their competitors

isn't this still free at many other competitors?

so nice of starbucks to think of us.

Your story is completely inaccurate and misleading.  Starbucks is not dumping T-Mobile in anyway.  They have forged an agreement to allow T-Mobile and AT&T customers to use their hotspots.  So they will now have two carriers supported.  The T-Mobile agreement does not change in anyway and nothing changes for their customers.  So how is that dumping T-Mobile?  I think you are misleading readers and causing confusion.

romeohifi.com rules. They have some of the cheapest and best selection of all brand unlocked phone like iphone.
