Ebay tries to wash away mistakes with new service

Another day, another doomed social networking service launches. Today brings us the "Neighborhoods" community at eBay, which is struggling as the number of auctions on the site decline.

The service is truly cringeworthy. In the Coffee Lovers forum, eBay employees have obviously tried to seed some discussions by posting things like, "Isn't morning a great time for coffee?" Yeah, that's going to stimulate some fascinating comments.

The idea is to stem the losses at eBay by keeping people on the site. Ebay's listings dropped 6% in the second quarter from the first and 2% from the year-ago period. Listings by active "power sellers" were also down an astonishing 25% from the year-ago period.

Meanwhile, eBay is still reeling from its hugely bungled Skype acquisition and from bad press like this article, where a Led Zeppelin promoter says, "I wish eBay would drop dead and die."

If eBay wants to keep people on its site, it should consider dropping all the fees that sellers get hit with. There are cheaper ways to sell (Craigslist, anyone?). Asking "What has Star Wars meant to you?" is not going to cut it.

The rules and fees are horrible. I have been a powerseller since 2000 and it has only got worst. Now with owning Paypal they tend to be nicer but Paypal is the hitmen making many jewlery sellers  quit . Ebay is a good idea but they have been the 900 pound gorrilla for this type of website for too long and the problems are from the result

Ebay has steadily reached into our pockets further and further.. but not any more! I've stopped using eBay because of their ridiculous fees and poor customer service. eBay has lost its luster and has started to fade away. Ever notice all the multiple items listed one after another like SPAM... 50 items all the same in a row, it makes browsing a pain. I wish eBay would pay attention to the people who actually made it what it is today and then make some big changes.

Ebay, like Home Depot, has set it's own path to destruction. Once the damage is done one cannot undo it. Even if they went back to the basics I still wouldn't go back.

Ebay needs to separate the power sellers from the yard sale sellers. ebay needs to get ups and fedex contracts and offer discounts on shipping. and not let the seller post how much shipping will be. ebay will offer usps, ups, fedex, or dhl as shipping options. but at a set price. and list the amounts paid for shipping and let the buyer choose.

=( I just bought something off of ebay today.. Now I feel like my little heart strings are being pulled apart.  Sad

Ebay sucks due to their discrimination against the average person or seller. Their fees are outrageous as well as Paypals. There aren't that many deals to be had on their site anymore. If they would not discriminate against people I am sure they would have alot more business. Their policies suck and are not geared towards average sellers but to create and keep a monopoly going for their so-called crooked powersellers. I am making it my mission to discourage people from doing business with ebay until they recind their policies and let me buy and sell on their site again. I was absolutely thrown off for no apparent reason or explanation. I was selling jewelry just like thousands of other power sellers and they still get to sell but not me. Ebay you suck and lie to people. You are offensive and desrve all the bad press you can get. You are definitely crooks as well as you used someone elses intellectual property without permission and are being sued as this article is being written. I bet alot of people did not know this about you. So how dare you throw me off your site for selling my wife's Tiffany jewelry. You are no saint either.

I had a documented case of fraud against one of Ebay's on-line stores. The seller directly violated Ebay rules. My evidence would have held up in any court in the country, I had documented proof. I contacted Ebay, provided them the evidence and Ebay refused to help and told me to take the seller to court. The seller continues to sell on the site to this day. Now I understand that as a powerseller, that customer generated a lot of revenue for Ebay, but that shouldn't give them a pass on following the rules. It did. It was the last item I ever bid on.

Ebay is doomed, the abuse and harassment of ebays has got to stop..    Have you ever tried to file a complaint, rectify a problem, the forms are out of this world.  Therei point is to make it sooo frustrating that you give up!!!  I have been lied to, cheated and harassed by ebay enough ready!!!  I have begun an class action suit to clean this up, they need to change the was they do business.  Buy a phone!!! If you want their phone contact me, Want the CEO's email, contact me.  Heard of the class action against Sprint, I'm working with the same folks.  Com'on are you as fed us as I am?  Contact me I'm in Minnesota, Ebay shame on you clean up your act.  Want to lose you money as well as your mind shop ebay.  Email them nobody there reads past the first line.  Trust and safety Dept. what a joke!!  We'll put you on the class action suit, Sprint is being sued for $25,000 per client.  Use Craigs list!!!  Leave the scum behind. pPease email me with your ebay horror,  sstopstealing@aol.com  Join the a;ready thousands of us!!!  Make ebay sit up and pay attention.  Lets hit where it hurts in the money belt!!!!  Let them hide no more...  That means you Meg Whitman, Bill Cobb!!!  Oh and lets talk about Angela!!!  What a witch, just in time for Halloween!!

I agree with many people.  Ebay was a site where one could find fair prices.  Over time the prices  for sale have zoared along with shipping fees.  The fun of the hunt is gone.  I never thought I'd say I'd rather go to the mall, park and fight the crowds than to attempt to find good prices on EBAY.  Malls have sales and I don't have to wait.

Ebay should have kept things simple and cut out the extra seller fees.  Sellers pass it on to all of us and THAT has made both sellers and buyers ALL LESS THAN PLEASED.

I believe EBAY might now stand for "Extra Billing Always Yours"

Ebay: Outlandish fee's.  Enough said.
