Who knew chocolate could be politically correct?
Apparently, Mars Snackfood US, maker of M&Ms, Snickers, 3 Musketeers, Milky Way and other American favorites, does.
The company has launched the equivalent of a filibuster to draw attention to competitors that substitute vegetable oil for cocoa butter in their products.
So, what’s in it for you? One of the biggest chocolate giveaways in history.

As the recession deepens and the stock market drops, some U.S. corporations are offering a helping hand to those most afflicted -- job seekers.
February job losses brought the nation’s unemployment rate to 8.1%, so there are plenty of people out there looking -- another 651,000 joined the jobless ranks last month, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
If you’re one of these people -- and even if you’re not -- you can get copies of your résumé made at the FedEx Office (formerly FedEx Kinko’s) store near you -- for free.

Southwest Airlines heated up the airfare wars by starting summer discounts -- $49 to $99 one-way fares between many major cities -- earlier than ever this year and extending flying time through the middle of August.
Aaron Crowe reported in a WalletPop post how he scored after checking to see if other airlines would try to match Southwest’s fares. “I was looking for a July flight from San Francisco to Minneapolis last week, and was about to buy a $350 round-trip ticket but decided to wait. Saturday night the price dropped to $189 round-trip on United Airlines and I snatched it up.”
We decided to see if there are real bargains for those of us who don’t fly the major routes.

With Denny's recent free breakfast and Starbucks' plans to offer its own version of breakfast value meals, it's no surprise that some McDonald's restaurants are upping the ante -- free coffee for the whole month of February.
But it gets complicated. There's much discussion online as to where to find this free morning jolt. You won't find it at every McDonald's; we called one in our town and they knew nothing about it.
But it's clear some people are getting in on the deal.

Do you ever wonder why your hair grows so darned fast?
We do, and we know that the most frugal approach to this problem is to have an in-house hair cutter. However, all it takes is one bad haircut to disavow one from this approach. (Ours came at the hands of a sister many years ago.)
So, what’s a gal or guy to do? Herbal Essences to the rescue. If you buy their products, they’ll pay for the haircut.

Free medical care in the good ole U.S.A.? Could it be that Congress finally passed a national health care bill?
Don’t get too excited. It's Walgreens that's offering free medical care for unemployed, uninsured workers through its recently unveiled Take Care Recovery Plan.
Under the plan, people who are laid off and don’t have insurance, and their uninsured family members, can receive free treatment during 2009 for minor ailments at Take Care clinics in 342 locations across the country.
But there is a catch or two.

As if consumers haven’t been alienated enough lately, now a spat involving the nation’s credit-rating bureaus is creating more confusion. And some financial pundits are saying that consumers are the ones who will lose out.
Currently consumers can buy their three FICO credit scores (at myFICO.com) from Fair Isaac, the company that calculates credit scores based on data provided by each of the three major credit bureaus. FICO scores are the ones most lenders use to decide if you should get a loan. (You can get a free credit report every year from each of the bureaus -- Equifax, Experian and TransUnion -- by going to AnnualCreditReport.com.)
Now Experian has gone rogue and as of Saturday will no longer allow Fair Isaac to sell the FICO score based on Experian data to the public, and Experian can’t distribute those scores to the public itself. “But,” The New York Times reports, “Experian itself will continue to sell FICO scores based on its data to lenders, so some banks may make credit decisions, at least in part, on a score that consumers can no longer see.”
Adding to the confusion, Experian is all over television and the Net promising free credit scores.
We went to Experian’s site -- freecreditreport.com -- and took the bait.
