When burdened down with debt, things can seem impossible but there are tools such as payday loans, credit card balance transfers, credit negotiating strategies and more that you can use to lessen or consolidate your debts. For instance, payday loans are short term loans that are usually no longer than two weeks in length, but offer customers the opportunity to avoid excessive penalties for late payments with other creditors. An example of this would be borrowing a payday loan to cover the last hundred dollars of an auto loan or home mortgage payment. Being late with payments such as these can cost you upwards of $75. However, a $100 payday loan would only cost between $15 and $30, saving you $45 to $60 in late payment penalties. Another would be balance transfers with existing credit providers. This can be a good way to help reduce debt. If you possess a reasonable credit score, you should be able to find a credit provider that will allow you to transfer your high interest balances and enjoy a 0 to 3% APR for a term ranging from six months to the life of the transferred balance. This will allow you to pay down your debts quicker and eliminate high interest payments. A third thing you can do is negotiate with your current creditors. Creditors everywhere are competing for your business and will do some surprising things to keep you on board with them. By simply placing a call to your creditor and telling them that you have an offer for a better rate elsewhere, you may persuade them to fight for your business resulting in some beneficial money saving solutions for you. There are a lot of little things you can do to save money and help you pay your debts down more quickly. The sooner you do so the better, especially if you have been stuck paying only the minimum payments on your balances. Paying only the minimum payments on your debts can keep you in debt for years. On a thousand dollar balance with an $18 annual percentage rate and a 2.5% minimum payment, it would take almost thirteen years to pay off your balance. If you are having trouble with debt, the sooner you act the sooner you will begin to save.
But you say."All my friends do it; its fashionable, its hip!"

Well lets see who is hip when you get to your 60's and don't have two nickels to rub together. What is wrong with this generation? Didn't your parents teach you money management techniques?
Be realistic! Be right! Be a saver! Rainy days happen!

If you own a car with one of those rotary engines or an older Geo with 3 cylinders, the piston removal idea wont work. A rotary engine has only one piston moving around to different combustion chambers. With a 3 cylinder engine, if you take two pistons out, you'll only have one left not giving you much power. If you take one out, the engine will run lopsided. You must have an even number of cylinders Bob. You can always purchase add-on cylinders and pistons Bob. I knew a guy with a v-9 engine once. But then again Bob, I am not an automotive mechanic and I stress the importance of seeking competent, professional help before you attempt this or any engine modification.

I agree that high compression ratio engines need a higher octane level to boost power and stop engine knock.

Here's an idea Bob: Rather than just purchasing the lower octane, less expensive gasoline, why dont ya have a mechanic take out half of your engine pistons and you'll save even more gas. Im not a mechanic either but seems like that would be the way to go Bob.

re: Great consumer tips -- and they come from Uncle Sam

Harvey Channin's comment:

Dear Mr. Fed,

Interested in saving us money? Here's an idea; end the illegal and immoral occupation of Iraq which will save a lot of innocent lives and approx. 11 billion a month in taxpayer dollars.

****************************************************

Innocent? Innocent of what?

Putting down a regime such as Saddam's is a moral good. And i suppose the Union army during the 1860's should have let the south do what it wanted too huh?

I believe this world is a safer place with Iraq fallen. Iran, Syria & Pakistan are next.

If you believe we should just sit around and do nothing, you must be ignorant of history. I suppose we should have just let Germany in the 1940's do what they wanted to Western Europe too huh?

Knowledge is power and truth.
