No it's not just your imagination about tomatoes. Canned tomatoes still offer flavor though.

Whew!! With that price you'd think they are going extinct. I shop the sales and only buy at regular prices when I have to. Our local private grocery that has been here forever has the best meat and the best meat sales in town. I rarely buy meat anywhere else. Their boneless chicken breasts were on sale last week for $1.69/lb. I'll be growing some veggies this year too.

Maybe buying organic and supporting local farmers wouldn't be such a bad idea on your health and the wallet. Going on supporting big chains like Wal-mart and their monopolistic ways of draining their suppliers of money by buying extremely cheap will never help in the LONG RUN! But then again getting people off the instant gratification kick (i.e. buying wuts cheapest) and to actually think about the long run is probably the biggest obstacle.

re: $9 chicken: What to do when food prices are rising

Local farmers' markets are a great way to get fresh produce at a great price. This year we are going to go back to having a big garden and can all of our own vegetables and tomatoes. We are going to do a no-till garden for plants and use the 3 sisters system for corn, pole beans and squash.

re: $9 chicken: What to do when food prices are rising

IS IT JUST ME OR HAS TOMATOES LOST ALL THEIR FLAVOR? IS IT ME?
