what a beautful tribute to yor mom. my mom turned 88 this year 1st planetrip last summer tosee my grandaughters wedding she has been frugal all her life and I

have learned from herso much so this year instead of sending a gift I wrote her

a letter "my memories" all the little lessons that helped me when things were tight.

I have a feeling she will appreciate that more than any store bought gift.Mother's Day

a time to remember what we have been blessed with.Perhaps this reccesion will be a wakeup call to return to a more meaningful way of life.

I think our moms were twins. And I know how much you miss your mom because I feel the same way. The world is a sadder place without them but they left it a better place for having been here. God Bless our wonderful mothers.

Wow, a powerful story. Memories came to mind in a swell of emotion: grandma's powdered milk in a sparse refrig. Mom watered down dishwashing soap to make it last. Meatloaf dinners (lots of bread crumbs), pancake suppers. Few clothes, raggedy coats. Dad always away at a mysterious place called "work", yet never at peace when he was home. Heck, we kids were glad for the existence of "the office"; it meant having to hear less raging when he was there.

An austere childhood (5 kids in all) filled with wonderings of why we did not have the nice things and opportunities that other kids at school enjoyed, yet we did not lack for any necessary thing. I see now that birthday / Christmas gifts and family trips were a sacrifice for mom and dad.

I spoke with mom recently, recalling when a dear departed uncle took our family out to dinner. I was shocked to learn that she remembered the event more vividly than I had - it was her first time ever to eat in a Chinese restaurant (then age 41). Growing up, she reminded me, there was not a lot of money for eating out (so true).

Love and honor your parents while you have them in the present time. Even if circumstances were hard and you think that they could have done (and behaved) better. Celebrate their legacy by providing for and cherishing them as well as the next generation.

My brother e-mailed this to me and asked if it reminded me of anyone. It brought tears and smiles. We still have our loving mom and appreciate her everyday for all the wonderful blessings and lessons taught to us while growing up.
