The big box sports stores offer a big box of bad customer service, no knowledgeable staff, bait and switch items, no custom fitting and the list goes on and on. Shop a local retailer and you make a friend over time and the price is always right. IT'S NICE TO BE CALLED BY NAME WHEN YOU ENTER A RETAIL STORE.....BUY LOCAL YOUR $ STAYS LOCAL.

besides the CEO of big box makes way to much, he don't need your money.

And most of the auto parts stores were locally owned. Now, if you need anything for your car you only have three choices from the new mega corporations, AutoZone, Kragen or the dealer. Except from some dealers, none of these corporations offer stable jobs or wages or a good chance to become a professional at the counter. I believe it is important to support local businesses because it will generate wealth within the community and better quality of life for new generations.

We service what we sell. If a piece of equipment is purchased on-line or directly from the manufacturer (usually at a higher cost) it is the obligation of the seller to service it. If merchandise does cost a bit more at a local establishment it might be because you are paying for their knowledge and time. It still amazes me that we will have folks come into the store and spend 2-3 hours trying out euipment and "picking our brains" so that they can go on-line and find a "deal." Only to find out that their "deal" did not include delivery and installation, telephone or in-person consultation nor future service help. At that point, they are truly on their own.

The same holds true for shopping at "big box" stores i.e. department stores. Usually the cost is lower but so is the quality and the service. Most specialty retailers carry equipment that is of higher caliber than department stores meaning longer life expectancy with less service required. Factor those items into the decision making process and you will find that working with a local business is both cost and time effective.
