Roth at partner blog Get Rich Slowly . I used to spend thousands of dollars a year on books, most of which I never read. In recent years, I've been trimming my book spending . I spent nearly $3,000 on books in 2003, but that

re: 10 ways to save money on books

I think some people are missing the point. The cost of books is expensive. 25 dollars is the average for a hardcover and 8 dollars is average for the softcover. I always prefer to read a book in hardcover but I will not pay high prices for them. I will shop around and buy like new copies for as little as 5 dollars in hardcover. I hear and understand the logic of people's arguments that we "need" to support the authors and buy the books, but publishing has goten expensive and I will not pay those kinds of prices. Besides the money I save I can buy more books for more enjoyment.

You enter the ISBN of the books you wish to sell on the website and then receive an offer for the books that they are buying. You then choose to accept or reject the offer. After all offers are accepted, you check out and receive a packing slip and a prepaid label to send the book! Once the books are received, you get paid by either Paypal or Check within 48 hours. I like to use Paypal.

It just makes more sense to me than some of the other solutions mentioned. I usually only get 50 cents to $1 at a yard sale for books when there are many books worth so much more. It is better than trying to sell books on Ebay because you know exactly how much you are getting for each book and you don't have to wait around for bids and hope you get a good price. I also like it better than Amazon too. When you sell a book on Amazon, they take 15% or 20% commission and you have to wait around for the book to sell. The price offered on bookjingle is the amount you get.

Their proceeds go to local charities. Funding big chain bookstores is not our thing. We love the used books for not only allowing us to aquire a lot more books for the money, but the sometimes quirky comments by previous owners, the fact that for a time it links us to someone else's library and of course that rather than thrown away/pulped, it's recycled into our library. And if loved, a book is a pleasure to read again and again. We each can buy our books our own way, as long we all continue to read. After all the books Roth sold, will be bought by someone again...

Buying books to READ is by far one way to get the biggest & best-bang-for-your buck! Not only does it activate and exercise the brain with new and exciting ideas but enhances your ability to discuss interesting ideas coming from all sorts of books! and become smatter! What a novelty!!!Where would you be if you didn't have the opportunity to read books growing up? Do you know that AVID readers become AVID writers (job skills!)? hey, a reduction in unemployment! have better success in school? become better citizens? and learn to perpetuate their own literacy as entertainment vs an aspiring couch potato! a drug dealer! a prostitute! Have you ever witnessed/experienced a child learning how to read? or acquiring their own VERY OWN book that can be read and reread over and over again? snuck a flashlight under to cover to read a thrilling book after "lights out"? Have you donated any of your 'savings' to purchase books to donate to the local public school? or to increase a teacher's in-class library? used your $$ to put gasoline in your car so that you could drive someone to the book store, book sale, or even the library? How many hours have you spent volunteering w/adults/students/ children during your 'off' time working to help non-readers learn to read and eradicate the illiteracy rate? Do you have a clue how much the illiteracy rate dips down into your pocket book and the millions of $$$$ that it costs cities, school districts, states, and the national treasury supporting non-readers? Most non-readers struggled as a child because s/he didn't have the luxury of a parent who modeled reading in the home, bought books, took them to library. If you had, you have a whole lot more wealth and could spend you bragging rights about a much greater cause than bragging about the measly $$$$ amount you saved by not buying books. What an attitude to promote!!!!Can yiu imagine writing about how you helped someone to have books and learn to read versus padding your own selfish pocket!! Do you have any idea how much money could be saved across the US if each one of your readers donated time with a non-reader? How about saving $$$ on excess food, becoming trim, and a helper to those who have less? Develop a sense of charity? I do hope that you offer an apology to your readers for this insane idea and mend your ways to promote a healthier pro literay and reading cause versus spreading propaganda that impedes knowledge!!
