Shopping bags are excellent for all the mess that I clean up. I use them for cleaning scoopable cat litter. Of course, I have them in every pocket and in the car for everything from collecting garbage during the trip, using it to put extra sweater in, or to use for cleaning after dog.If I have not finished painting,I use plastic bags to wrap paintbrush, after I invert rubber glove on the brush(for oil paints. Latex is easy to rub off on the newspaper and then rinse in the bowl of water).I use small colourful bags from my healthfood store as a lunch bag for a week. They are small enough for soup container to stand up(I reuse plastic containers from everything), and if it does leak, they are leak-proof. I put plants from the garden after separating them in the spring, dampen them with the water, and then give them to my friends and relatives. I put old cotton t-shirts in them, tie up the handles and store in the basement on the shelves, when I need more rags for cleaning or while painting, I just pull one from the small opening on the top.

I mean, let's face it -- plastic bags are an American addiction. Luckily, we have the Planet Police for an intervention.

This is a really funny video -- enjoy!

Glad you liked the piece. Since writing the piece, I've come across even more ideas for utilizing plastic bags. Things I wouldn't have ever thought of. I'll be interested to see what other readers contribute for ideas.
