Roth at partner blog Get Rich Slowly . I recently attended a party with some of my former high school classmates. Many of the other guests were artists. I don't know many artists, so it was fascinating to listen to their stories

re: Turning garage sale junk into eBay gold

Has anyone tried www.auctionsuccesstraining.com? I've heard good things about it, but I'd like to know if anyone else has tried it.

No problem. I went to garage sales, started buying stuff and putiing on Ebay. I always start my listings at what i am willing to sell for. I usually make a 100-300% profit. I have been able to make my car payment. If you want to start, go to garage sales and buy items that are still packaged or have tags on them. Puzzles, unopened, gift bags, jewelry, books, etc. Kitchen items sell well. I use Craig's list for large items such as chairs, dining room set, etc. Get your game on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Garage sale season is here. Flea markets are great for bargains too. Don't underestimate perfume bottles. Lots of collectors.

Ebay is now the Worst place to sell anything, ask any current or former seller, like myself. Buying scams are rampent now through PayPal, you lose your money and your item(s), and still get to pay the fees. Look around and you can even find tutorials on how to get anything on ebay for free. As a former Ebay Power Seller, my advice is to stay far away from Ebay for selling things. But if you must use Ebay, don't list anything you can't afford to give away. Good luck.

I have sold many items there and it is way cheaper than ebay and no risk of being ripped off by Paypal. I was an ebay power seller but all their changes seem to be designed to chase away the small seller. It drove me away.

(there are still final value fees you need to add in, but you only pay that when you make a successful sale). That means you can try it, and if it doesn't work out you didn't pay anything! eBay isn't what it was 10 years ago, just like ANY market isn't what it was 10 years ago, you just need to keep up with what's going on. If you're completely clueless, there are good training programs out there to help you get started. I signed up with www.AuctionSuccessTraining.com. I went with that one because there are no scam/rip off reports out there that I could find, and they're pretty up-front about what they charge. They're not like one of those companies that tricks you with some free CD for 1.95 shipping and then hides in the fine print that they're going to bill you like $100 for 6 months. It's a flat monthly membership that you can cancel any time.

Is there any decent substitute for eBay these days, for the small seller who is, say, cleaning out the house or a storage unit? I need money for medical bills, I'm not trying to compete with Costco. But I'd like more range than local, esp for things that have a smaller niche market, like tools for a specific trade or collectibles, for instance.

I have had terrible times with Ebay and Paypal.. however I still manage to buy and sell stuff regularly... you just have to remember, sometimes you get burned by buyers and Ebay does nothing to protect the reputation on the buyer, only the seller... when it is all said and done however and the end on the month there is a profit, just not as much as you would think... I managed to sell enough to buy my girl a real nice engagement ring... about 5k... she would not let me buy her a ring on Ebay, so I traded enough old car parts to pay cash for the ring...
