I remember about 10 years ago when I had a MBNA card with a $25,000 credit limit sent to me. I checked the advice boards and all of them said that an un-used credit card could be counted as part of one's "emergency funds".

I thought that was the stupidest advice I'd ever heard. If you lose your job what happens if the card limit is lowered? How could you pay it back later? What if the interest rate zooms up?

But these were the advice people from the good old days. Even last year I would hear this "you can use a credit card for an emergency fund. Put your money in the market"

Gee I'm glad I didn't do that. Silly luddite me....
