Execellent write up. Children will inherit materials as well as values of their parents. If they are lucky, they may also be blessed with good health. All they need to do is learn and adopt the positive values and attitudes of both their parents. These values and attitudes will translate into good habits and they will become part of a family culture - way to go.Thanks Ron, you confirmed my thoughts and perspective of family and life.

Excellent advice, Ron, and such a good reminder. I love what Dave Ramsey says about changing your family tree - this is just like that. How will we change our family's financial future for the better? For me, just teaching my kids about money at all will be a big step in the right direction - not making it a taboo subject, not being "scared" about our kids' understand our financial situation.

Ron, you make a great point regarding the two ways children learn from parent's behavior (they model it, or they react with the opposite). I think a lot of how they respond is determined by the spirit in which we lead by example. If we lead frugal lives because we are poor, broke and generally unlucky then our kids won't find much appealing about this lifestyle, and will likely react to it the first time they have money by spending wildly. However, if we live frugally because we choose to, because it makes us better stewards of our money and our resources, and we do so with a positive attitude, then our kids will be much more likely to repeat our behaviors.
