I enjoy your articles and your great suggestions. Ignore the rude people here.

If all people espoused your philosophy and practice, I wouldn't be worried now about my taxes going up to bail out people who never should have had homes to begin with.

Every so often I read your article about how you lived on 12k per year.

Very inspirational-you are a talented writer as well.

Going to yard sales is just fun. I'm Ok spending a couple dollars on gas to treasure hunt. Beats driving to the mall for a day of shopping where I would spend way more, or an expensive meal out or for something crazy like green fees (sorry golfers!) We dont have to justify whether or how much gas we use to go yard sale-ing! We dont have to make excuses of why we have fun finding a bowl in the free box. If the whiners dont want to go to garage sales they dont have to go! And if they dont want to read about our treasure hunts and finds they dont have to! The whiners should pass on the subject matter and find something they feel is worth their time. If for one love to hear about other peoples treasure finds!

I HAVE TRIED HAVING A "FREE BOX" AT MY LAST 4 YARD SALES....AND THE STUFF IN IT WAS PRETTY NICE.....BUT PEOPLE WOULD LOOK AT IT, AND WALK AWAY AS IF IT WAS "HAUNTED"........ MAKES YOU FEEL PRETTY BAD WHEN YOU CAN'T EVEN GIVE SOMETHING AWAY!!!!! I DON'T SELL ANYTHING CHIPPED, BROKEN, OR DIRTY..... EVEN IF I SELL A BOWL FOR A QUARTER....IT'LL BE CLEAN. PEOPLE ARE STILL GOING TO GARAGE SALES - ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH KIDS - TO TRY AND CASH IN ON GOOD CLOTHING FOR BACK TO SCHOOL; OR JUST TO PICK UP A NEW TRINKET FOR THE HOUSE IN THESE UNSTABLE TIMES.

I liked this article. I just recently started going to garage sales myself and I love it. I'm on a very strict budget now, and only have $20 month of blow money. It really goes a long way at garage sales. I find that I spend way less than If I had went to the mall or target or something, even with gas spent driving around. I've gotten designer clothing for 50 cents, nice lamps for $3.00, brand new dvd for $2, etc. It also helps keep my shopping urge in check to where I don't ruin my budget. It's also thrilling to find a really good deal.

Boooring, I'm sure you are finding it a lot of fun to provoke comments and stir the waters. You obviously have a lot of time on your hands and I'm sorry that your life is so small and insignificant that this constitutes your amusement for the day. Have some self respect and go do something constructive.

ok... so you drive to the sale,and gas is $$$. There are tons close to home, or stop after work, when you drive by them anyway. I have a Wrought Iron love seat we picked up for 5$ , 15 years or more ago, it is still in use today and for a few years the school would paint it if needed and use it for Homecoming pictures.Now it sits at the edge of my garden and I can rest when tired. My son says it is his when I have no need. good deal for 5$. I have tons more and most were on the way home from work, just took a side street ....

You know, these posts are like the things in the free box. Maybe you don't like them but others find a use for them. The complainers need to know the world does not revolve around them and their needs alone. You want to give me the empty soda can. I recycle the aluminum for the money.
