Imagine how much money you'll save if you stop shaving your legs or coloring your hair, or if you sell your kids. Or if -- let's get really extreme here -- you offer your husband's collection of Star Wars figurines for sale on eBay. We all need a laugh today. And you can get more than one from "The top 5 (evil) tips for frugal living" at FruGal.

Here's an idea for additional income that never occurred to us: You can make $20 or more an hour by stringing tennis rackets. In fact, Scott at The Passive Dad tells you how to take a crash course. We all know about selling stuff on eBay and having yard sales. But what about some alternative sources of income that everyone else hasn't thought of, like renting out your driveway as a parking space. Here are a few more.

David G. Mitchell at Saving Advice is an expert telecommuter. A man ahead of his time, he's been doing it for eight years. So who better to explain how we can all convince our bosses to let us work at home. Some of his 16 arguments on behalf of telecommuting are obvious: If you're working at home, you avoid those little personality conflicts that can become major workplace distractions -- and those nasty office politics. Others are less so: You will actually get a lot more work done if you're doing it at home. Now, that's something that will get the boss's attention.

Hank's friend, a father of three, faces a difficult decision: He's been offered a job in Iraq that will pay $290,000 for a year's commitment. Like most big decisions, it's very complicated. But we'll tell you right now that most readers who commented on Hank's post said, "Don't do it."

I.C. Jackson's experience with unemployment benefits is enough to make anyone cringe. After she lost her job, she took her mother's advice and applied for benefits -- even though she had been fired for being chronically late. Her claim was approved. Months later, her former employer apparently won an appeal. "I was ordered to pay back every dime of a benefit that I was told legally belonged to me," I.C. wrote at Debt Blog. "... Who knew that just like buckshot spraying from a barrel, applying for unemployment benefits could blow up in your face?"

Have you ever had a bad boss? (We can hear the chorus of yeses from here.) "Free Money Finance" describes one of his former bosses as "Attila the Hun's long-lost relative." Another of his bosses was incapable of making a decision, and yet another penalized employees she didn't like. Needless to say, FMF's post "Share your bad boss story" drew plenty of comments from readers, who related the antics of bosses who were unethical, unappreciative, cheap, incompetent, downright mean or all of the above.

"Frugal Zeitgeist" is a very professional person, so it irritates her to no end when she hears young women talk, like, they're, like, unsure of themselves. She also hates it when their voices go up at the end of every sentence, even when they're not asking a question. This is no way to promote yourself and land a good job. "Stop it. For your own good, I'm begging you to stop it," FZ writes.

In honor of that upcoming blessed event known as the start of the NFL season, we'll point you to RacerX's post "What the Green Bay debacle can teach us" at Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Money. Backstory, short and sweet: Green Bay icon Brett Favre retires, changes his mind, but the Packers have already transitioned to another quarterback. Favre will wear green this season, but the logo will be that of the Jets.

Some people blame the system or fate or bad luck for their inability to get ahead in life. Could they be right, or are there steps most people can take to improve their financial situations? In a post called "Victim mentality and personal finance" at Moolanomy, Pinyo wrote about a couple he knows who have spent 20 years in poverty and believe "that was the hand they were dealt." He begs to differ. He said that blaming seemingly uncontrollable circumstances is counterproductive, and that "victim mentality is detrimental for your financial health."

People are a bit more likely to talk about secret subjects like salaries and their love lives with someone they've just met than to discuss how much they owe on their credit cards. In fact, religion and politics are much more palatable topics among strangers than any of those three, according to a poll done for CreditCards.com.
