Who knew chocolate could be politically correct?

Apparently, Mars Snackfood US, maker of M&Ms, Snickers, 3 Musketeers, Milky Way and other American favorites, does.

The company has launched the equivalent of a filibuster to draw attention to competitors that substitute vegetable oil for cocoa butter in their products.

So, what’s in it for you? One of the biggest chocolate giveaways in history.

Every Friday through the end of September, you stand a chance of getting a free chocolate bar or candy because of the Mars Real Chocolate Relief Act.

Mars initiated the program last week, giving out coupons for chocolate treats to the first 250,000 people who logged on at RealChocolate.com on Friday and requested a coupon. The response was so large that Mars is doubling the chance for free chocolate this week. A half-million coupons will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis and mailed to those who qualify. Coupons are redeemable for any full-size Mars chocolate product and are limited to one per person per week.

What’s the purpose? According to Mars, federal regulations stipulate that the only source of fat (except milk fat) in a chocolate product should be cocoa butter. Mars says it uses only 100% cocoa butter and urges consumers to look at labels whenever they buy chocolate to be sure they’re getting the real thing.

Of course, while bringing consumers’ attention to chocolate standards, Mars is also trying to lift spirits in a recession-plagued nation, describing the promotion as “a massive effort (that) aims to spread joy across America by giving away as many as 7 million full-size packages of Mars chocolate.”

All we can say is: Bring it on!

This blog doesn't mention the fact (which is on the website form) that there is a limit of four coupons total for the entire promotion.  I'll take my four coupons, but don't expect "months" of free chocolate!

I think they should leave my chocolate alone and work on important issues.

The way the economy is we all need our chocolate fix.

I love chocolate too....but DARK CHOCOLATE, made with PURE products is SO much better than this crap they are peddling in every aisle in WALMART!

Man....America will eat ANYTHING if it's for free..and it shows!! Thats why we are one of THE Fattest and unhealthiest countries on the planet.

Different marketing idea. Intriguing for those of with an affinity towards C -H -O-C ... well you know !

Stay out of my chocolate and do what you were hired  to do.  No where did I see in your list of things to do  anything that said mess with one of the things in the world that is perfect. MY CHOCOLATE!!!!!!!!

           BARB

Connie why don't try looking forward to POSITIVE things and healthy things? Just cause the world is going to CRAP doesnt mean you need to fill your BODY WITH CRAP! That's an excuse, I am sorry but it is. That's why all those people are on the biggest loser, because they STUFFED their bodies with the wrong food to NUMB their emotions. Don't use the bad economy or NEWS as an excuse to put horribly bad things into body...that just makes you look weak. It makes anyone look weak!

"gee....some guy killed himself down the road..think I will have a pint of Ben & Jerrys"

Bad..very bad.

TWIX AND M&M ARE MY VERY FAV---FREE CHOC--THATS EVEN BETTER**BRING IT ON I'M TELLING ALL THE GIRLS AT WORK--THANKS***********

***************LANA INDY

Think I'll stick to my imported Swiss chocolate thanks.

But good for Mars sticking to traditional 'real' ingredients.

Mars Snackfood US you go!!! take a stand for the real thing and I stand with you.  I

love my Mars and M&M's it's good to know that what we'll eating is real and

enjoyable!!

They've taken everything from us little by little but they can't away my candy bars take a trip to Mars on that!!!!!

The other day my Mom and I bought a regular Snickers candy bar and when we opened the wrapper it was in, we were shocked at how small it was.

Why has Mars cut back on the size of their candy bars. The price is higher but the product isn't what it use to be? We both felt short changed and disappointed!

I grew up on Snickers and it's disappointing to see them cut back at the customers expense. Just remember if we don't get our moneys worth-Neither do you!

Disappointed Chocolate Fix :(
