The restaurants are at it again, God love ’em.

We just reported about Denny’s second freebie offer of the year -- a free Grand Slamwich when you order a Grand Slam breakfast. Now T.G.I. Friday’s is getting into the act, with deals that are good for the entire month of April.

If you belong to T.G.I. Friday’s Give Me More Stripes club, you can enjoy an appetizer for a penny with the purchase of any beverage in the bar and, with the purchase of an entrée, a second one of equal or lesser value is yours for $1.

For many, this is a clear incentive to join T.G.I. Friday’s membership program, but the restaurant chain also has deals for those not on the membership list: a free Jack Daniel’s entrée with the purchase of another and a buy-one-get-one-free lunch offer -- all good through the end of the month. The promotion for this touts, “We’ve got you covered with our economic relief program.”

We found the Web to be alive with happy recipients of T.G.I. Friday’s largesse. “Leobaby” at Slickdeals.net wrote: “Our waiter let us use both coupons at the same time with our kids sitting in the main part of the restaurant. Our total for two entrees, an appetizer, two kids’ drinks and two sodas was $16.79.”

Gary at GarySaid.com wrote, “If it sounds too good to be true, that’s because it’s that awesome of a deal.” He added, “It’s one coupon per person: So two people can get one appetizer and two entrees for (about) $11.01 plus your drinks.”  He also wrote that the coupons can be used again -- until the offers expire.

Tara Kuczykowski at DealSeekingMom.com wrote that if you join Give Me More Stripes, “you’ll be well on your way to earning free food,” explaining “the program allows you to earn coupons for free food worth up to $8 every time you reach $100 in food purchases.”

Kawamata at SlickDeals was convinced by others’ comments at SlickDeals.net: “Wow, this looks so tempting. . . . Screw the diet, I'm in!”

whoopee.

Please give your gratuity based on the menu price, not the give away price. Your server is making no more than 3.15 an hour and depends on tips to pay bills, just as you and I need a full paycheck to pay our bills. You will still be ahead of the game.

Sorry, but we don't use alcoholic beverages, and not about to pay humongous prices for a "virgin" drink.  Also, have never even set foot inside the place before, so we really have no base on how to rate the food.

J. Combs - get a life and get out in the world.  There isn't anything that a stiff alcoholic beverage can't make better!

Honestly, i say good for the food chains, even better for the consumers. ME!! It's great when they have to compete with one another for our bussiness. It means in the end, the consumer is the one that wins. We are able to find the best deal for our specific needs.

To Diane:

While I agree that everyone should base their tips on the menu prices, The federal minimum wage is $6.55 per hour, NOT $3.15 per hours as you stated in your comment above.

Cathy

Just because the federal minimum wage is $6.55, doesn't mean that servers get paid that amount. There are ways around that and I was a server for many years and only got $3/hour. Trust me, the only money you make is from tips.

J. Combs - that's comendable that you don't use alcoholic drinks and that you don't spend your money foolishly.  But, what does that have to do with TGI Friday's offer?  Are you bragging? or WITNESSING?!  Very poor attitude and example.

I don't use alcohol either, but I do enjoy some of TGI Friday's menu items.  I'm not a self-righteous snob as you seem to be.  Think about it!

Everybody else - enjoy the free food!  It's tastes great - even without alcohol!

Actually servers don't make the federal minimum wave as stated above in all states. I live in ND and am a server. I make 4.29 per hour as my wage plus tips. so we appreciate people who get that and tip based on what they would have spent instead of leaving a dollar on a $16 tab.

Cathy - I'm assuming you've never waited tables. Not a problem, but what you stated doesn't apply. Try googling "how wages for waiters" and you should get an eye opener.
