You're zooming down the highway, cell phone in hand, checking your hair in the mirror, and then you hear a welcome "ding." Hooray! The breakfast sandwich in your in-car microwave has finished heating.
We're willing to bet that for every person who says in-car cooking is idiocy, there's another who thinks this new device is yet another great on-the-road convenience.
According to the Daily Mail, the 12-volt microwave plugs into the cigarette lighter, and cook time is slow. Coffee is hot in six minutes -- probably best done if the car is not on a bumpy road. If you want faster heating, the microwave will connect to the battery.
Perhaps it's recommended for use when the car is standing still (or maybe that's just wishful thinking on our part). "The microwave ensures you can get a hot meal whether you are out for a day in the country, off to the beach or working at a remote site," a spokesman for British company Maplin Electronics told the Daily Mail.
(Reader "Kurt B" commented at The Truth About Cars, "Twenty-car pileup caused by scalding hot burrito. Actually, for people with food allergies, this could be very useful on a trip.")
Where will you keep your meal chilled until it's time for cooking? Clutter your vehicle with a regular cooler or get a new Ford Flex. A certified car nut we know pointed out that it comes with a refrigerated console (extra handy if you can no longer afford your house and have to live in your car).
