Did you know that salt mixed with hot water can remove unsightly perspiration stains on your shirts? We sure didn't. We thought those stains were immutable.

In fact, we found lots of useful tips at a Web site recommended to us by Abby FreedmanGomestic covers many domestic topics with a sense of humor and flair. The salt post is actually titled "10 top (legal) things to do if you find yourself holding a jar of salt." There are also posts featuring 10 top and legal uses for toothpicks, baby oil and Vaseline. (The last two deal with eliminating squeaks in door hinges and water spots on floors, cleaning greasy hands after changing the oil, and the like; get your mind out of the gutter.)

Back to the salt. (To read the entire post, click here.) Writer Anne Lyken Garner says you can whiten teeth by brushing with a paste made from finely ground salt, baking soda and water. Salt sprinkled around door and windows frames will keep the ants outside.

A little salt in the washing machine will brighten your washable curtains and rugs. She also says a little salt in the milk in your fridge will help it last longer.

Salt will set dye if added to the first wash for new garments. It will kill weeds in your driveway, or tree stumps if you keep applying it to the stump after each rain. And years ago we used warm salt water baths to draw out infections from a hand or foot.

SALT MIXED WITH BAKING SODA WHITTENS TEETH. GARGLING WITH WARM SALT WATER IS HEALING FOR A SORE THROAT.

For the tree stump post above. The salt is attracting animals that are chewing on it to get to the salt. I have heard of deer hunters doing this to attract deer to there property and then stopping right before the season starts.

I have an evil zombie Sumac tree that won't die.  No matter what we do to it, it keeps spawning more evil baby sumac trees! Grrrrrr! I'm going to try the salt! Thanks for these great tips

A couple of tablespoons of salt with ice cubes in a coffee pot swirled around for about 5 min. and then rinsed out will remove all the discolorations from coffee and any hard water marks leaving your coffee pot sparkling clean.
