50 things you should know how to do

Marc at Marc and Angel Hack Life says his list of "50 things everyone should know how to do" is far from inclusive. Oh dear, because there are a number of things on the list of 50 that we need to get cracking on.

This list of essential skills is impressive and, better yet, entertaining. Marc's brief explanations about why you should know each thing often have just the right amount of sass. (Our pick for No. 51: Know how and when to be sassy.) For example, Marc writes: "Swim -- 71% of the Earth's surface is covered by water. Learning to swim might be a good idea."

Plus, Marc provides helpful links that can help you master each vital skill.

Some of the 50 are directly related to personal finance: "Handle a job interview -- I promise, sweating yourself into a nervous panic won't land you the job," he writes. Among the other moneymakers and money savers are: cooking, managing time, selecting quality produce, making a budget, sewing on a button, painting a room, jump-starting a car, and using a computer and protecting it from hackers.

Closely related would be remembering people's names (which is among those we have yet to master.) Marc says, quite rightly, "Do you like when someone tries to get your attention by screaming 'hey you'?"

Some are skills that, hopefully, you'll rarely have to call upon, like delivering bad news, administering CPR, and dealing with the cops.

Skills on the list that way too many people fall short on, in our opinion: giving a compliment; telling a story that captivates, rather than bores; figuring out when people are lying; being a good house guest; and knowing some basics about geography.

There are certainly others I can think of... like tying a tie.  But this is still a fantastic list!

Most definitely.  It irks me to no end that people get through life not knowing how to change a tire, read a map/navigate, or use Google.  And if you don't know basic computer fixes, don't use one!

those are some good things to know. how about changing a flat tire?

Balance a check book

Lovely list.  Now how about knowing how to live without gas or electricity, maintaining and using a well, and being self-sufficient for food and clothing?

Or better, know how to maintain relationships, serve others, be kind, never assume, not complain, and avoid disparaging other people?

One cannot know everything, much less practice it all, but those who know enough to earn a lot should hire those who know at least one thing, to help them make a good living at it.  I figure, the smartest have the most free time because they can buy it, the next smartest save the highest percentage of their money but all their time is gone doing it themselves.  I vote for the free time, but since I can't afford it, I save money by doing things myself, and if I have neither time, nor money, I am truly free for a while.

Another one might be checking the oil in a car, or how about turning the main off on a gas meter or water main for a home in the event of a disaster.

These are all things my husband made me learn, after he passed away I was very thankful he took the time to teach me.

ummmm...everyone should know how to read and write and in English!

I have been saying this for years.  Have you seen what they let graduate from high school?  These kids don't know anything about anything.  Thier parents wipe thier asses thier whole lives and when they grwo and hit the real world it's going to hit them like a speeding truck!

I think another one should be losing weight.

As someone who read MSN Money regularly, I'm usually annoyed when I click on an article (usually a blog) with an interesting Headline and find that some blogger has found an interesting article in a different site... and the blog is about them finding the ariticle. I understand a blogger is not a writer, but how about some original content? Or atleast change the title to "My opinion of someone else's article."
