Here's a super deal to keep kids entertained during summer months: Raising4Boys has provided a list of free or discount movie specials available at theater chains this summer.

"Dad" (aka "Nickel" at FiveCentNickel) says, "In case you're not aware, theaters often have special summer promos where they show G or PG films on weekday mornings for free, or nearly so."

Here are a few examples:

The Cinemark Summer Movie Clubhouse offers 10 movies -- one a week -- for $5 total if you buy in advance, or $1 each at the door.

The Regal Free Family Film Festival doesn't charge admission to selected movies at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the nine-week festival.

AMC Summer MovieCamp donates the $1 admission charge to charity. The films are shown at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays from June 25 to Aug. 6.

If your local theater isn't on his complete list, call and find out if it offers a similar discount.

Thank you so much for this information!  I had no idea that this was available!  I made a list of movies showing in our area and will keep it handy!  YEAH!!

Our local theater does this, and it is great!  I buy the $5 kid movie meal and get a drink, popcorn, and candy that we share.  It is a great way to get out of the house and entertain my son for 2 hours.

i HAVE THREE KIDS AND WILL TRY TO BENEFIT FROM YOR INFO. THANKS

I had chance to go to the movies on Irvine Spectrum and Tustin 6 and believe me with three children and the cost of each ticket at regular prices plus snacks, you spend a little fortune everytime you go to the movies because going to the movies is  TODAY a luxury that lots of parents cannot afford anymore and these information on these great deals were right on time and it is great!

My hometown theater used to do this, many years ago (1970s).  You could either buy a season ticket or the movies were a buck apiece.  They showed really old stuff like Godzilla, all the Planet of the Apes movies and some stuff I can't even remember what it was.

The dime store (anyone remember those?) sold 2 cent candy, and my mom would give us 26 cents and we would go buy a little paper bag of candy to take into the movies with us. Sometimes she'd splurge and let us get popcorn and soda.  Ah, those were the days...

I'm so freaking old.
