Lazy Man debuted a new occasional series on celebrity finances by examining the spending habits of Sarah Michelle Gellar. She's the former star of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," a show Lazy Man says he watched obsessively. He gleaned details about the actress he refers to simply as "Sarah" from a profile in Self magazine. "I've watched enough 'Buffy' to pretend I'm on a first-name basis with her," Lazy Man explains.
Lazy Man is quite impressed with Sarah's frugality, he says in his post at Lazy Man and Money. When "Buffy" first aired, she bought a Chrysler LeBaron, not a Porsche. She now uses a bicycle to get around New York City.
While she has splurged by having birthday parties on opposite ends of the country, Lazy Man doesn't fault her for overspending. "I suppose it's tough to have half your friends in NYC and half in LA," he writes.
Sarah gets a discount at Whole Foods because she takes her own bag, shops the double-rewards events at Bloomingdale's, and prints out coupons for the dry cleaners, according to Self. She also donates to CARE. "I guess all of us can't afford to shop at Whole Paycheck," Lazy Man says, "but other than that, you have to commend her."
You can't believe everything you read about the stars, Lazy Man writes. But, he adds, "I'm inclined to believe that Britney and Lindsay have 'some issues,' while, in general, Sarah is a money-smart star."
