Self-improvement need not cost a lot

We admire wellheeled, who blogs at Well-Heeled, With A Mission. This 20-something has decided a little self-improvement can be fun, reasonably priced, and can even contribute to the greater good. Her goals are as ambitious as volunteering at the museum (cost: $50 membership fee, if her application is accepted) and as simple as making her own bed every morning (cost: free), something her mom always nagged her to do.

She has been asked to interview for the museum position, which is a scary thought. "... how demoralizing must it be to have someone say, 'Thanks, but we don't want you. Not even for free'?" she writes. She also wants to take a dance class, join Toastmasters International to improve her public-speaking ability, and join her college's alumni committee. And then there's that bed. "A nicely made bed pulls the room together, and there's the feeling of folding over the comforter and getting in bed. I can't do that if the bed's a rumpled mess already!" she says.

We have a feeling she'll be successful. We've already seen her determination. She's one of several young bloggers who have vowed to reduce clothing expenditures. Wellheeled has pledged to go cold turkey for six months. In her first test, her "reasonable voice" won out over her "gimme voice" in a battle over a pair of Banana Republic shoes.

What an admirable young lady.  she could pass up as a good role model for everyone.  We need people like her during these times.  The Young Entrepreneur Society from on www.YoungEntrepreneurSociety.com has similar content about self improvement.
