Working those CVS 'bucks' and coupons

We appear to be among only a handful or so of Americans who don't live near a CVS. But we've heard raves -- including from resident blogger Donna Freedman -- about how you can combine CVS Extra Bucks and coupons to get huge savings in these stores. In case you've also missed out, Living Almost Large offers a tutorial about how to make the best use of CVS ExtraCare Rewards, AKA Extra Bucks. "Of course, I realize many things at CVS are more expensive than, say, Target, Wal-Mart, or even Costco," LAL writes. "However, there sometimes are deals which make items free or next to free."

For instance, LAL bought two eight-packs of Bounty and three four-packs of Charmin (this woman obviously doesn't skimp on paper products) for $20.45. But after using a $4-off-$20 store coupon, five manufacturer's coupons, and $5 in CVS Extra Bucks she'd earned on a previous trip to the store, her total was only $6.45. For another explanation, see a post about how Farm Home Life bought stuff worth $28.81 and spent only 81 cents, plus got another $5 in Extra Bucks to use in the future. Blogger Julia at My Coupon Adventures didn't miss out; she used Extra Bucks to stock up on free toothpaste.
