Did you know that keywords can be an essential ingredient in your resume?
Golbguru at Money, Matter, and More Musings is in a job-hunting mode and shares 11 tips based on his experience and observations. Some of his advice should be obvious, but we suspect it isn't: You must be able to communicate. In two cases, prospective employers asked golbguru for writing samples "because, in the past, they had terrible experiences with people who couldn’t even compose simple e-mails properly ...."
Find out if your industry has a "prime time" for hiring. Use someone as a reference only if you're certain that person will recommend you. You don't need expensive clothes, but you do need to smile. Golbguru writes: "People like positive people. Keep your sarcasm restricted to your blogs and comments on blogs (note to self)."
As a bonus, golbguru provides a link to "How to ace a job interview" by Money Smart Life, which is another must-read. Our favorite from his list: "Don’t share anything online that you wouldn’t want a prospective boss to know. I know of several cases where a promising applicant ruined their chances of being hired by details they revealed on their Web site."
