Personal-finance blogger makes a stunning confession

Money Relations explains why it's taken her so long to write the "perfunctory PF 'brown-bag' lunch post." We'll tell you why in her own words: "I buy my lunches." (Gasp!) The secret is out. Will there be consequences? She worries, " ... now that I’ve confessed, am I going to be kicked out of the PF community?"

In this charming, tongue-in-cheek post, MR explains that it's OK to be good to yourself when you can afford it. She can, because she has set a $35 weekly limit for lunch. "I’ve come to the realization that it is not in my history, nature, mental makeup, DNA to brown bag or do leftovers," she writes. "The bottom line is just be true to yourself and not to deny the pleasures of life if it is within your means. It just so happens that it is my pleasure to have others cook for me."

Karen,

Thank you for taking the time to read the post.  I hope I can encourage others to take up the cause in the brown bag rebellion ;)

Now I'm really going to get it from the PF community...

I'm alot like that. I enjoy others cooking for me instead of brown-bagging. I don't know why that is the case, but it is putting a dent in my finances...

Hi...

I agree with you!  I tried SO hard to brown bag - I truly enjoy treating myself to lunch out.  I really would enjoy a sit down each day but I know that is wasteful and I am content with a great deli meal.

That's discipline right? :-)

Hi Lee,

It is a shocker when you do the calculations.  I was averaging $50-60 per week so now I reign it in at $35.  Not perfect but I do feel as though I've accomplished something.  And I gotta eat...

LaMonica, I'm sure if push comes to shove, we can be disciplined :)  But it's nice to have the choice ;)
