andy: who writes and sponsors those "college textbooks"? it's amazing how young people simply read something and take it as gospel or fact. don't they teach you critical thinking in college?

also the classic trick walmart pulls all the time is that they undercut mom and pop stores and once those are out of business, they raise their prices full speed ahead. i was so happy when walmart was blocked entry by thousands of business owners in new york. we don't want wal "made in china" mart coming over to our state.

is walmart really for trailer trash and those living in ghetto projects? cashing your check for free can be done with any bank account. that is a PERK?? i find it funny how the money can easily be put on a card. why would i go through all that when i can just use the money itself?? how stupid does walmart think people are?

I for one am NOT free of wants.

On this Independence Day I want a responsive government of which I might be justifiably proud. Today a WWII veteran neighbor brought lemon sherbet to my neighbor who has broadly metastatic *** cancer; today I saw children with flags shaking hands with firemen who had their trucks out on display. I am proud of my fellow citizens.

My vote for President and members of Federal Legislature is "none of the above", a vote of no confidence; there none of whom I am proud.

Alright, YES, I work at Wal-Mart, so let me try to clear up a few things....First, Walmart did not create low income people, they actually start out above minimum wage, Alot of businesses get and go to other countries, the U.S. probably cannot keep up with the supply and demand...Wal marts biggest fund raiser is for children's miracle network and they have given millions ( i believe actually billions to this charity)

At my store females have more of the management jobs and they have created thousands (millions?) of jobs in alot of towns, and they usually are cheaper than any other store, if not don't forget they match prices!

We live in a country where the motto use to be "God and Country" now its all GREED. How much more can I have? We're bombarded by shows like the old Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and our youth bow down to the Paris Hiltons and Rap stars as they aspire to have their "bling". Our country is in need of managing what we have. Congratulations on being debt free - way to go!!! Dave Ramsey would be very proud of you.

living simply & within ones means, doesn't mean we have to live like a hobo. It does mean being 'responsible' w/what we do have. For the last 12 yrs. we have lived simply & will own our moderate ranch home Nov. '09. I too have 'missed out' on a lot of things I WANT but know I can live w/out. Being an 'impulsive buyer' (on a small scale), I am learning that to tell my self 'no, not now, but maybe later' has curbed my impulsive spending BIG TIME. One Day at a Time. One moment at a time. It works. Easy? Absolutely not. Worth it? You betcha! It creates LESS STRESS. Then your able to handle those 'unexpected' surprises that invade our lives so much.

The biggest problem I see with some of the comments left on here is that you are only reading what you can in a paper, you dont know the inside stories that really happen and why things happen with Walmart or any other company. You get the reporters story which they make up parts and cut out parts to fit their needs.

Walmart has to raise prices just like any other retailer, the suppliers are the ones who set the cost and if their cost goes up so do retail costs. I honestly think that everyone just wants to crack on the big retailer "walmart" because they are the big dog and the one you always hear about. What have you heard that Target has done for the economy, the community and their employees? Or other retailers? Is it really so bad at walmart??? I know that I can shop at kroger for my groceries and then go to walmart the next month and buy the same things and same a lot more then $1.50!!! Just because it is a low priced retailer does not make it a junk retailer. They sell the same tvs as sears and other high dollar retailers and Walmart sells them a lot cheeper!!!
